At Tea Party Forum, Cruz and Dewhurst Lay Off Attacks
SUGAR LAND – Though their race that has turned increasingly negative in recent weeks, the two Republicans in a primary runoff for Texas' open U.S. Senate seat kept things fairly friendly at a candidate forum on Saturday night.
The more than 200 attendees of the Fort Bend County Tea Party event appeared to appreciate the change in tone, as both Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz repeatedly drew loud applause.
The two candidates took turns answering the same set of questions. Dewhurst went first and Cruz waited outside so he couldn’t hear the questions ...

"Hell yes" sounds gung-ho coming from someone like Perry... Not so much from Cruz, IMO.

I like the "interview" style rather than the live debates. Would like to more of them in the future

Sorry, Dave; your FATHER went on those missions braving death every time. You? The FAA growls at you and you scurry to kill the TSA anti-groping bill as quickly as you can. Stand on your own deeds.

I don't like "conservatives" cussing for drama, either. As to "scurrying," this is a man who volunteered during the Viet Nam War and was in the CIA. Since my husband was out of State at the time, I'm glad Texas airports weren't shut down.

The lower the political and humanistic IQ in the crowd, the more likely a statement like that gets cheered.

I'm leaning towards the guy who knows from first hand experience what effect his votes have on the people who sign the front of paychecks.....still a tough choice. I like this forum better... The 60 second forum allows for nothing BUT sound bites ...and then each side complains about the other for only talking in sound bites.

Judge Richard Posner, a conservative on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, has long been one of the nation's most respected and admired legal thinkers on the right. But in an interview with NPR, he expressed exasperation at the modern Republican Party, and confessed that he has become "less conservative" as a result.Losing the respect of a man like Judge Posner apparently does not bother the Tea Party Lunatic Fringe. They are so full of themselves and so uninformed as to be listed in an insane institution. Unfortunately there are not enough Mental Instiutions in this counntry to hold them all even if we could catch them.

Texas Anne - thank you for telling me Bozo Nugent is from Michigan.. although it does not make me feel any better. I would be happy if he was not on this planet. I thought he was from Texas because he owns a huge r anch here... and other properties,. And he gives a lot of money to our daft Rick Perry, a Texan who does not know the difference between an armadillo and a fence post.
She was from Houston, same as me, and we were so proud of her. I met her at a business meeting back in the the eighties. She spoke to our group and she had us all laughing ourselves silly. If you have not read all her books you can still buy them. It is the one she wrote about the election of George Bush. check out a newspaper the Texas Observer. I subscribe to it... great fans of Ivens.
The Chonicle is afraid of the Perry Mafia because they immediately lose half of their advertisers. They recently covered a big scandel. The State of Texas passed a huge 2 billion dollar bond for taxpayers to pay for new cancer research. Shenanigans behind closed doors gave twenty million dollars to some one who did not deserve it. The Chronicle failed to say that the push through the back door thievery was done by a Perry appointed person,..

No Time for Jobs and the Economy
We’ve been discussing the GOP’s obsession with health care, but that’s not the only thing Republicans are obsessed with. Here’s a few other things they’ve focused on instead of creating jobs and moving the country forward.
Cutting Taxes on the Wealthy: Republicans successfully held middle-class tax cuts hostage in late 2010 in order to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy for another two years. Then, nearly every Republican in the House and Senate voted for two successive budget plans that would give millionaires another $265,000 tax cut on top of the Bush tax cuts. House Republicans are also planning a vote in the coming weeks to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy yet again. It should also be noted that when given a direct choice between bills that would have put millions of Americans back to work or protecting the wealthy from paying another dime in taxes, Republicans repeatedly voted against jobs bills.
Ending Medicare: Almost every single Republican in the House and Senate voted for two budget plans in a row that would end Medicare as we know it and replace it with a voucher program that would shift costs onto the backs of seniors.
Attacking Women’s Health Care: Almost immediately after taking power in 2011, House Republicans set about attacking women’s health care. They passed bills that would have redefined rape and even let women die rather than receive a life-saving abortion. Last March, Republicans nearly shut down the government in order to defund Planned Parenthood.
Enriching Big Oil & Rolling Back Clean Air and Clean Water Rules: This Republican-controlled House of Representatives is the most anti-environment in history. The House has voted against the environment at least 247 times, including 109 votes to enrich the oil and gas industry.
Pursuing Political Witch Hunts: House Republicans, in particular, have tried to stir up trouble for the president using politically-motivated witch hunts. A year-long investigation of the failed solar company Solyndra failed to turn up any wrongdoing. And just last week, House Republicans took the unprecedented step of voting to hold the Attorney General in contempt of Congress after the president invoked executive privilege in response to the GOP’s fishing expedition in the Fast & Furious matter.
IN ONE SENTENCE: A look at their agenda shows that Republicans have found plenty of time to obsess over just about anything other than jobs and the economy — except, of course, when it comes to their attempts to sabotage it.
