Democrats in U.S. Senate Runoff Will Debate

The two Democrats competing in the July 31 runoff for U.S. Senate are set to participate in a televised debate on Tuesday, June 26.
The one-hour debate between former state Rep. Paul Sadler, of Henderson, and retired educator Grady Yarbrough will be hosted by KERA, the Dallas PBS affiliate that is also hosting a debate this Friday between the Republican candidates in the Senate race, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz. The Texas Tribune is a partner in both debates; executive editor Ross Ramsey will be one of three journalists to ask questions of the candidates.
The Democratic debate will not be broadcast live. KERA plans to air the program at 7 p.m. on June 27, the day after it is taped. Other PBS stations in Texas will air it at other times, KERA Managing Editor Shelley Kofler said. The Tribune will post video of the debate as well.
The Republican debate will be broadcast live on KERA and will be live-streamed by the Tribune on Friday at 7 p.m.
