Ted Cruz Gains Ground on David Dewhurst, Poll Finds
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst's lead against former state Solicitor General Ted Cruz in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate has decreased to 12 percentage points, according to a new poll released today.
The Public Policy Polling survey of Republican primary voters found Dewhurst drawing 38 percent of the vote, followed by Cruz at 26 percent, former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert at 8 percent and former ESPN analyst Craig James at 7 percent. Eighteen percent remained undecided.
A January PPP poll found Dewhurst leading Cruz 36 percent to 18 percent among Republican primary voters.

''Among voters who are familiar with Cruz ... Cruz leads Dewhurst 39-34.''
Unfortunately, those aren't percentage points. Those are the actual 93 voters who are familiar with Cruz.

If you include the Feb UT/Texas Tribune Poll results, the overall trend, such as we can get from three surveys, looks like this:
Jan PPP: Dew 36, Cruz 18, Leppert 7, James 4 (und/dk: 31%) (MOE +/- 4.2)
Feb UT/Trib: Dew 38, Cruz 27, Leppert 7, James 7 (und/dk: 18%) (MOE +/- 5.1)
April PPP: Dew 38, Cruz 26, Leppert 7, James 7 (und/dk: 18%) (MOE +/- 4.9)
One might have surmised this trend based on the Dewhurst campaign's focus on driving Cruz's negatives up with their recent advertising and messaging. But it's a race average folks have probably only recently started paying attention to.

I am very glad to see that Ted Cruz is coming up in this race. He definitely will have my vote!
I am very tired of politicians who go along to get along, and unfortunately, there is a great deal more of that attitude in the Texas legislature than there should be, and Dewhurst was involved in the leglislative process. Both Dewhurst and James (seriously ?) did not seem interested in campaigning until late in the game and quite frankly, have waited too long to enter the race. By the time they decided to ask the voters of Texas for their support, the other candidates had held almost 30 different debates in all corners of Texas. It took a lot of time, effort, and fortitude to participate in that grueling process, and the johnny-come-lately's either couldn't be bothered or were afraid of their possible outcome. Either way, their lack of interest in facing the voters of Texas tells me that neither Dewhurst or James deserves our time or vote.
Of the remaining contenders, we have some very good candidates. I am very impressed with the proven ability of Ted Cruz to take on the status quo head on and win. Our current national administration seems to think that the Constitution is just a "guideline" and that U. S. law should be subject to an international legal standard rather than the Constitution. That to me is not only wrong, but seems to totally disregard the oath of office they have taken to uphold the laws and Constitution of the United States, and very possibly, an impeachable offence, if our laws are subrogated to international standards. Ted Cruz has taken on the World Court and won, has vigorously defended our second ammendment rights, and is a champion in the area of states rights vs. federal intrusion. He has some very impressive endorsements, including the budget conscious Senator Jim DeMint. I want to send someone to Washington who will look out for the interest of Texans and our money, as well as the money of all U. S. taxpayers, and the sovereignty of our country. I believe Ted Cruz will be the most effective candidate to accomplish those objectives and will be a stellar example to the rest of the country of the type of individuals we need in our government at all levels.

Hey, let's talk about Republicans:
Blah blah blah...WHERE IS YOUR NEWS THAT GREG ABBOTT GAVE OUT MILLIONS OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OF TEXANS IN HIS EFFORT TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST VOTERS, AND PUSH VOTER IDS??? WHY ISN'T THIS BIG NEW TO THE TRIBUNE??
Abbott should be disbarred and removed from office.
"Abbott Exposes Millions of Texans’ Social Security Numbers
AG releases file containing over 13 million Texas SS numbers.
Misuse avoided only by vigilance of opposing counsel.
A legal brief filed by opponents of the Texas Voter Photo ID law reveals that Attorney General Greg Abbott exposed millions of Texas voters’ full Social Security numbers to possible theft and abuse.
The brief, filed Monday, April 23, 2012 states:
“… after vigorously fighting the production of data containing full Social Security numbers, Texas mistakenly produced to Intervenors data from the VR [voter registration] data base that contained full Social Security numbers.” ( Defendant-Intervenors’ Motion for Clarification of the Trial Schedule, 4/23/12, page seven.)
Texas voters escaped public release of their Social Security numbers only because of the vigilance of conscientious lawyers working against the Voter Photo ID bill. Rather than attach the files to documents circulated to other attorneys or expose them to access by the general public, opposing counsel immediately notified the AG’s office of the bungled release of private data. Abbott then, at the expense of Texas taxpayers, sent a courier to both New York and Washington, DC to retrieve the files. As the brief details:
“Intervenors immediately notified the State and, at the State’s request, Intervenors ceased all review of the VR data that had been provided, with the State sending a representative from Texas to collect the VR data disks personally.” (Defendant-Intervenors’ Motion for Clarification of the Trial Schedule, 4/23/12, page seven.)
Abbott’s negligence constitutes one of the largest risks of public identity theft in recent memory. Last year, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs received bitter criticism for releasing the Social Security numbers of 3.5 million Texans. In this most recent case, had the files not been handled carefully and responsibly by legal counsel opposing Abbott, as many as 13 million Texas voters’ Social Security numbers could have been exposed to potential illegal misuse and identity theft."
