Tribune/UT Poll Shows Texans Don't Like Washington
The Texas electorate is all about Us and Them. Saying things are better in here than they are in Washington, voters think the rest of the country should look to the state as a model of how things ought to work, according to a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.
Sixty-two percent of 800 registered voters surveyed say the country is on the wrong track, while only 27 percent say it's on the right track. But the state knows where it's going and what it's doing, they say: 45 percent believe it's on the right ...

Let's see - 800 people out of how many millions? How about: Where do the people live (city, part of the state), how did the pollster determine whom to ask, what were the questions, what was said before the questions were asked? Instead of taking an 800 person poll as proof of what Texans think, look at the methodology of the poll and let us, the readers, know what that methodology was so we can decide if we think the results are a large enough sample (800 out of how many millions?) and the slant, if any, of the questions and questioners.
When looking at a poll, I would much prefer to know the answers to the questions above so I can decide if I think the poll was accurate, fair and what it really shows about how a small number of people think.
Those of us who read the Texas Tribune are smart enough to draw our own conculsions; just give us ALL the pertinent information, we can think for ourselves.

The methodology of the poll is attached to this and every poll story as a pdf; see "reference material" at the top of the page, just below the first pie chart.

I'm for the medical use of mj ! But not generalized use.

I think it is sad that more people feel they are informed enough to have an opinion about marijuana than things like redistricting and health care.

I disagree, however, I am against alcohol as well, and we all know how that went over.

Sure would have liked to be on that study committee. They were paid to figure it out, were they?

My Dad, the retired pharmacist, has looked into this and says mj has no more lethal potential than alcohol -- and is vastly much less addictive. So I have to respect his learned opinion. I agree it should be legalized in TX for medicinal use only. Restrict to prescription use -- and tax the hell out of it -- so that it doesn't become over-used.

How does one get from this headline (much less the story as a whole) to your "point," Patsy?

@Patsy, morals are the right of the individual, not the state. Those who do not imbibe on moral grounds now, will not if it is legal. So what is your issue?

Texas Trib -- Sorry, but your health care reform questions are virtually worthless. Why would you ask people how much they know about the health care reform package and then not test whether or not they actually know anything? I would love to see how many of those people who oppose healthcare reform actually know anything about it. I would love to see how many of those people who said they "know alot" about healthcare reform actually knew much at all. I would love to see how many of these people think there are, or ever were, "death panels" in the bill. Or does it matter any more whether or not people's opinions are based on reality or ignorance, lies, and misinformation?

The tell tale sign the sample is squid is having only 37% knowing the Leg. only meets every other year. You either sampled a group coming out of a gun show or Teabag Party meeting or a bunch of transplants from Arizona. I suggest you enlarge your sample size ans start calling cell numbers unless you want the opinion of the 'old fogy' Sun City crowd.
