Democrats' Irrational Exuberance
In the wake of Bill White’s entry into the Governor’s race, Texas Democrats are understandably — and dangerously — optimistic. In their minds, they’ve been riding a winning streak stemming from success in local legislative races where, for three consecutive election cycles, Democrats have gained seats in the Texas House.
As the Democratic narrative goes, it is only a matter of time before regional ripples in Dallas, Travis and Harris counties become a statewide tsunami that will swamp every corner of the state and sweep an entire new generation of statewide Democrats into office.
This isn’t the fist ...

If we're going to cherry pick our 'facts' overwhelming conservative Williamson Co. had 1 precint go Dem when Kerry ran 4 yrs ago. Last year a third of them went for Obama. Delisi is a Republican hack who will paint as rosy a picture as possible. Besides, we don't have a redo of Obama and McCain. Perry won with 39% of the vote three years ago and he's less popular today. Perry's tricks of having 'One Tuff Grandma' and Kinky drain off votes isn't going to work a 2nd time. A lot of people, many in rural areas are angry at Rick Perry.

I don't want to echo the previous comments but what would you expect out of a Republican consultant. Bill White is a safe pick that will help the Dems in metro Houston and will help downballot candidates like Kristi Thibaut, and may give us a shot at Dwayne Bohac. Ted cherrypicked Montgomery, but look at the decreased GOP percentage in red Denton, Collin, and Williamson counties. Still red counties, but not ruby red like they were earlier in the decade. Dems are following their Republican neighbors and moving to these areas as well. Bill White will keep the race competitive and has an outside shot. I would have preferred Paul Hobby but there will at least be a solid candidate at the top of the ticket.

I have only two words for Mr. Delisi: Rick Perry. When even Aggies in East Texas say they'll vote for Anybody But Rick, the GOP has a problem. It's their gubernatorial candidate. And if anybody thinks Kay Bailey has a chance of winning the GOP primary, I have a dry hole in Henderson County to sell them.

I'm bookmarking this post and adding a reminder to my calendar to come back and visit it in November, to gloat about another GOP sweep of ALL state-wide offices. Again.
Going to be a donkey slaughter in 2010. You guys know it, too.
