The vast majority of your potential readership isn't used to the inside baseball stuff. We're not all politicians. We're not devout Dems or Reps. That said, wouldn't this story be easier to read if the second paragraph started,
"In late November, the Republican Party of Texas Chairman's present position collided with her past."
"A letter endorsing one Republican Texas Supreme Court nominee over another..."
The story is long. Many of the quotes are too long.
