Bill White Remains in Senate Race, for Now
Bill White is still running for the U.S. Senate, according to aides and to White himself, in response to a flurry of weekend rumors that he's switching to the race for governor.
The rumors, apparently emanating from the Rick Perry and John Sharp camps [see the update below], are that the Houston mayor has been talking to political trial lawyers and to union ops about moving from the race to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison in the U.S. Senate to the race for governor. Another version has him making the move as early as Monday.

Take it from a citizen of "Sanctuary City" Houston, the people of Texas do NOT need this man and/or his ideas in ANY public office!

Bill White has no shot at either office, but his candidacy is a good vehicle to keep himself relevant a little longer. His administration of Houston has been lackluster, with his biggest achievements being the safe-clear program and red light cameras. You'd be hard pressed to list anything of any significance he has accomplished in the past six years. My prediction is that in two years most people will not remember him and his phone will be covered in cobwebs, just like Lee Brown's. Sorry the emperor has no clothes!

I support Bill White for the U.S. Senate and appreciate the work that he has done for us here in Houston. Especially his ability and successes at keeping city council members focused on their jobs.
His active support of The University of Houston along with clean air and small business creation are appreciated by everyone to include FORTUNE magazine which listed Houston as a top city to launch a small business.
I don't know Bill White but I know the man is competent and a good choice to represent The State of Texas in Washington DC.

I am not supporting either John Sharp or Bill White at this time. Nor do I expect to pick a candidate in this race UNTIL there is actually a race. But isn't it about time for us to stop pretending that John Sharp has any future in public office? The sad fact is that Sharp's chances died with the Tony Sanchez fiasco he helped engineer. His time has passed. He is not going to be elected. I know he will keep trying. But he is beginning to remind a lot of us of Jim Mattox who, like Sharp, would just not quit trying no matter how many times he was beaten. I was still stuffing envelopes for Jim in his last race---it was something we owed him for having been the best Attorney General of Texas since Jimmy Allred. But we all felt embarrassed FOR HIM. It is long past time for us to look elsewhere for realistic candidates. Sharp's supporters obviously want White out of the race. That might open his way to the nomination, but it will not put him in the U.S. Senate. Instead it may only make it easier for the GOP to retain the seat. It is unfortuante but John Sharp's political future is all behind him.
