Video: Perry Rejects Key Health Reform Provisions
Gov. Rick Perry appeared on Fox News on Monday morning to discuss his decision to reject two key provisions of President Obama's federal health reform. As the Tribune's Emily Ramshaw has reported, Perry said Texas will not pursue plans to expand Medicaid or create a health insurance exchange.
"We're just not going to be part of, again, socializing health care in the state of Texas and going in direct conflict with our founding fathers' wishes — and freedom, for that matter," Perry said.

I could've sworn that the state insurance exchanges are a key component of Paul Ryan's healthcare reform proposal.

What a moron!

So let me get this right, Perry thinks the Congress didn't read a bill they voted for? If so, we need to vote OUT the current congress. AND Perry wants the FED to "block grant" the money so that he can give it to his friends and not to healthcare. It's past time to vote Perry OUT of office.

Texas leads the nation in the number of uninsured citizens. A recent study found that health care is inadequate even for those with insurance in many parts of our state. So, now Perry is going to lead us even further down the rat hole? He should be impeached.

Everything that came out of his mouth was rhetoric...no specific solutions.

I was surprised by the depth/targeted questions asked by the Fox reporter. Good questions, not so good answers.
Chance Haugen via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I totally agree Vicki. I thought she asked some very good questions that you would normally not expect from FOX News.

He's an embarrassment. He has so many cronies that I don't know how we'll ever get him out of office.
Sandy Burton via Texas Tribune on Facebook
He had NO real answers to her questions. I was surprised to hear them asked too.
Mary A. Gruszka via Texas Tribune on Facebook
He has the option to create a solution & instead does nothing..

He's not that smart, Mary.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: A Fox News anchor was abruptly reassigned today after pursuing substantive answers during an interview with Texas Governor Rick Perry.
"We just felt that it was time for her be in a position where she can't be in direct conflict with our mandate from the RNC...I mean, where she can expand upon her natural talents," said Jay Wallace Vice President of News, "Fox has needed a food correspondent to Paraguay for a number a years. We feel confident that she'll be successful there."
When asked about her recent interview with Perry, Wallace added, "Well, it wasn't just the interview. We've noticed that she doesn't spit when someone mentions Obama. I mean, Megyn Kelly spits on the floor all day. Can it be so hard?"
Other Fox on-air personalities reacted to the news. "She humiliated the governor, thereby humiliating herself. I hope she gets triple cancer and has to answer to one of Obama's death panels," said Steve Doocy.

More of the same from this do nothig governer, yet he keeps getting re-elected by the very people he is ignoring. It says plenty about the people of this state, that we keep this guy in office.

Turning away federal dollars so he can tax the poor. Great Job, Gov. Sassypants

TX residents need to launch a massive email, etc drive to tell Perry he is governor of ALL texans, not just his TEA baggers..He is not aware that his politics are making him walk the plank..

Perry is disaster.........

Perry supported John Bradley. Good 'ol boy politics in action. We got rid of Bradley, Texas should make a national statement and get rid of Perry.

I am 56 years old, low income without health insurance in Texas. I have arthritis and very bad knees. A month ago I fell and went to the ER. The doctor said nothing was broken and sent me home. The next day someone from the hospital call and informed me that my knee was fractured and I needed to go to a orthopedic surgeon. I don't have the money to go to the doctor and I am trying to live with the fractured knee. I want to see the healthcare that all texans have. Believe me I can't find it.
Duane Florschuetz via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Has Texas receded while I wasn't looking? Embarrassing!
Flawed Plan
Kay Bates,
Just another older lady who wants to say how sorry I am for what you're going through. I've been on Medicare for ten years and have the same magnificent health care I grew up with as a ward of the State in Minnesota. I don't know how people handle the depravity of the Texas political economy but you can be encouraged about the future, in the short term the Feds will take over Texas healthcare and you should have some options; longterm, ACA is a step toward Medicare for all, which we will make happen, even if not in our lifetimes we're on the right track.
Ed Jime via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Why is Rick Perry against the Exchange program? I'll tell you why, it creates a one place for all Texans to see plans and prices, creating competition in prices, and his insurance buddies don't want that.
And, I'll even give you more points, the health care exchange idea was a conservative idea, the health care plan is mostly conservative ideas, and almost exactly the plan Romney "forced" on the people of Mass., and they love it. The federal government was going to return OUR taxes to help the state of Texas to set up OUR own exchange, OUR way, and help pay for the really poor that will be on medicaid for the first few years. Why don't you like the citizens of the state of Texas to have their own exchange and save us money Rick?
Ed Jime via Texas Tribune on Facebook
He wants block grants so that he and his cohorts can steal the money, like they have with every other federal program, including things like the mortgage settlement of $183 million, which they promptly stole from the people that were supposed to benefit from it.

On Wednesday, the House will vote for the 31st time to repeal President Obama’s health care reform law. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) defended the repeal vote on CNN’s Starting Point, arguing that it is more than “political theater,” and that she wishes they could vote to get rid of Obamacare every day
Hey, Republicans.... WHERE ARE THE JOBS????

FOX News - Fair and Balanced (for once)
Rick Perry - Hair and unbalanced.

If Perry thought our healthcare situation in Texas is acceptable, then he should voluntarily give up the state paid for healthcare he and his family get and go on Medicare. Lead by example, Rick!
But I'm not holding my breath.
What an unethical, smarmy piece of work.
caesar parker
Without a doubt Texas has the best medical and hospital systems. The real problem is that many Texas citizens are unable to afford the medical care that they need. Rick Perry refuses to solve the problem of giving more low income Texans access to medical care. Come on Rick it is a no brainer and it is payed by the federal government. Therefore, you need to give more poor Texans access to that medical care that even you said is the best in the world. Oh boy!!! I have always said, "IF YOU DO NOT OWN A BUSINESS, THEN YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS VOTING REPUBLICAN."

Can anyone make this man shut up and stop embarrassing us?! On the other hand, maybe if he keeps talking more folks will see what a complete jackwagon he is, come to their senses, and finally UNelect this intellectually lightweight, small-minded, tongue-tied, jabbering moron!
Jack Morgan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
It's all about freedom. I want the freedom to bankrupt my family paying for health care. I want providers to be free to be able to set prices wherever they want, poor folks be damned. I want to be free to not have health care coverage at all. Freedom. It's all about freedom...
Bologna Vest
He waits 11 full days after the court decision to come out and say this, and yet is still completely unprepared. I'd be surprised if I hadn't witnessed the complete freaking meltdown his team had in terms of prepping the candidate on the campaign trail last year.

It was on Faux News, what would you expect. Total loser. Oh yeah what about car insurance?
Barbara Peyton via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Sorry... but it's all about turning your back on those individuals who need the most help. Where's that "heart" you were talking about? If it were Jesus asking to help the poor and hungry, would you turn your back on him as well>
