Would be nice if he maybe stayed home and did something for education in Texas.

Well, isn't that special?

That's great! Wealth is NOT a bad thing, success is a GOOD thing and there is nothing wrong with being wealthy.
Tom Osen via Texas Tribune on Facebook
And I'm sure that the tax payers of Texas are paying for the trip.

Bambi Clark Glad you Texans have so much money you can send Rick to Italy. Screw the public schools. Let't get to that F1 race. Let those money grubbing teachers eat cake!
Kipling Oren via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Well, somebody has to take on this chore . . .
Toby Marie Walker via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Texas has wealth because we don't believe in socialism, and sending our Governor to Italy is not a bad thing. No one seems to care when Obama goes to Eurpose.

Are we paying for his security detail?

And I want Rick Perry to move back into the Governor's Mansion!!! Four Years is long enough to pay for his expensive rent. What is up with that???? It doesn't take this long for renovation. Who is stalling?????

Toby Marie... Dos it not insult you that your Tea Party goals were founded on Lenin's ideals? I supported Tea Party goals on wasteful spending but I am not going to subscribe to the other Lenin princples. Read up You have been hijacked by the Koch brothers and other special interests. I will classify you as a sheep until you read up on what you are espousing.

Rick Perry is a good governor that has lost his way. He is a decent man that is being led astray by his advisors and skewed polling And I'm saddened.

Bylines like this are why I stopped donating to the Trib. "Wealthy businessmen" is not an insult, it is a goal that we are blessed to have the opportunity to strive for. And they have houses everywhere.
Beverly Swanson via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Actually, he can go and stay. We won't miss him here.
Lori Trammell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I hope a security detail is going with him. He is our governor no matter where he is. How come this is never an issue for dems?
Connie Campos via Texas Tribune on Facebook
So? what about when Obama goes to fund raise with wealthy movie stars and George Soros? Report about that.

Once a cheerleader. Always a cheerleader. Let's give 'em the horse laugh. Bring bidness to Texas. We've got folks here who'll work for little and they won't complain.

Most of the people commenting here and calling Rick Perry names are the same ones who will vote for Barak Obama. Does anyone have any idea of the amount of hrs he has spent flying Air Force 1 at the cost of around $180,000 per hr. He goes to Marthas Vinyard and Hawaii ,,,, he takes one Plane and His wife and kids along with cousins and friends , fly on another plane,,, leaving within hrs of one another. He jets around the country daily on your money.
Michelle , Mother, cousins , daughters went to Africa. They also flew to Spain. Spring break this year was attended in Mexico along with security detail ,, 14 friends of Malia all on you.
A 14 year old going on a spring break that costs millions???????????
No ,,, not one little peep about all the jet setting the Prez and his family does. Not a peep about over 100 rounds of golf,,,, playing basketball with the stars ,,, or flying to Cali to dine with Clooney ,, Sara Jessica or any of the rest of them. This guy spends your money like you are a bedridden 90 year old billionaire on oxygen with a 20 year old girlfriend that has full access to bank accounts and credit cards.
Perry goes on a trip that the purpose of it is to promote trade and have a positive economic benefit for Texas and everyone howls about it. So what ? Not like he invented the event just so he would have someplace to go,,, unlike the Prez who's only purpose is to extract money from people to support his reelection efforts or entertain himself , his family and friends.
It is a legitimate series of events where he will meet with other leaders and business people possibly convincing them to invest some money here in Texas which might mean a job somewhere for one of you CARPERS , a family member or someone you know.
As for him doing something about education ,,,, what about that new Media Liaison for DISD that is making $180,000 a year? A lot more than Perry makes,,, but money well spent I would assume most of you would say. Raises and bonuses for many school districts,,,, I thought there were " DRACONIAN CUTS'' being made in education..?? Where is the money for all of that coming from?????

Perry was in Europe when the Governor's Mansion was torched. I think Perry had it done because the Historical Commission nixed the Perry's plan for adding a new structure to enlarge the Governor's living quarters, and get them away from those pesky citizen tourists.
He's going to convince Fiat to build Ferraris in Texas under the Chrysler name.
He's done pretty well for an "outsider" who has become a millionaire sucking on the public teat for 28 years. He's also done pretty well for someone who earned a "D" in "Meat". Rick Perry has shown the world the value of a Texas education.
He's so concerned about his "safety", his security expenses are secret. Maybe he could take "President" Romney on a motorcade tour of Dallas, and take a back seat to the President.

If there is ONE thing that Perry does well and that is to PROMOTE TEXAS. I stand with him a 100%. As Ag. Commissioner his GO TEXAS campaign was and is brilliant. I am proud to stand with him on these issues. As a Gov. we are best off with someone with core values that enhance the rights of individuals and not insurance, utilities, and oil companies. That just toss out the fact that 4,000,000 Texans go hungry and that "critical thought" shouldn't be taught in our schools. That voter ID laws will cut down on non existent voter fraud. How transparent, its about winning not about one man one vote. Until we lessen the insanity of the Tea Party our state is in for harder times. Satan comes bathed in light........

As a long-time Republican I am appalled at this Governor. I will NOT vote for him and will actively campaign for a real leader than will help the overall benefit of the citizens. I look around this state and see the damage he has done.

The Texas Tribune needs to do research to learn how many Governor employees are also attending. The Economic Development office travels constantly, yet very little if any companies actually relocate to Texas.
It would be nice if the Tribune researched to see how much is spent on EDT employees traveling across the globe, and how many companies have actually relocated to Texas. Surprisingly not many companies if at all.
