Welcome to the Texas Tribune
And so it begins.
The last nine weeks — from the moment we started discussing how our many ideas for The Texas Tribune would be rendered digitally to the wee hours of the morning of Tuesday, November 3, when we flipped the switch and went live — have been something else. We've put in extremely long nights and worked incredibly hard, challenged basic and not-so-basic assumptions, invented countless wheels and reinvented others, and ended up here. If this has been the roller-coaster ride of myth and cliche, we've spent much of the early part of the fall strapped in, hands ...

Often I get frustrated with journalism that does an excellent job in revealing a problem without taking a little time to tell the reader what they can do about it. For example it is relatively easy to write about corruption, bias and favoritism, but rarely are we educated about the remedies.
I request that you put this issue on your radar.
Do we want your candidates to be free from the need and fear of special interests; and spending their time focusing on the public's business, not fundraising?
The Fair Elections Now Act (HR 1826) would create publicly funded campaigns to help neutralize the influence of special interests in manipulating public policy. So far there are 110 Co-sponsors including Rep John Larson, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, and Rep Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. But there are only 6 of the 32 Texan Congresspeople signed on.
Thanks and good luck with your new venture,

Congratulaions, guys! I agree, this looks much better than I hoped for. I'm already making the trib my home page.

Wow. The anticipation was killing me and you've met and exceeding my expectations. Well worth the wait. Congrats to all involved.

In the burning building of journalism, it's exciting to see something like the Tribune emerging. Good luck, and the site looks great so far.

damn, turns out the Tribune sucks! Just kidding - I wanted to say something that destroyed your view of what your comments policy would result in.
Meanwhile, great job - I wrote about it on my site this morning. (which I guess can be reached by clicking on my name? We'll all find out together I guess!)

Nice job. I'm looking forward to roaming the grounds, as you say. But before I do that, where are all the RSS feeds? I've been trying to add subscriptions in Google Reader, and it's not finding any feeds, nor can I find a directory of them. Help? Thanks.

One of the best journalism ideas to come out of the Great Recession. Congrats on the launch and good luck.
Too bad you can't get one of the art directors from Texas Monthly to give the site a nice coat of polish. Even the Texas Tribune teaser page had a more distinctive look than this. One of the main problems with traditional newspaper web sites is they are so god-awful to look at and navigate through. Would be a shame for such a great editorial team to miss a chance to redefine what journalism can look like on the web.

Evan, It is great visually, and after 30 minutes, no comma faults. Good to have the news from Houston. Perry, I can imagine, is very worried that your Tribune will know what he is doing or not doing all the time, even what he has for lunch today, and with whom.

Looks good. Sorry it took so long for me to get here but I was reading Terms and Conditions for posting comments. Hope you didn't have to pay the attorney who wrote that by the word.
A couple of things so far, 1) I suggest the addition of an environmental category for content, 2) Where's the comics? Hopefully the editors and writers won't lose their sense of humor. It is Texas politics we're talking about here.

Congratulations to the entire Trib staff. There is already a mind-boggling accumulation of good stuff here. I don't know how I'll ever find time to read it all.
I hope you'll develop a mobile app for Android phones (myTouch 3G, etc.)
New homepage!
Best of luck!

Curious to see what led you to leave such a fantastic magazine, I've been awaiting the Trib's arrival since reading your last Ed Note in Texas Monthly a few months ago. I'm very impressed with the dedication to good and true journalism the Tribune team demonstrates throughout these pages - a breath of fresh air for the media. Congratulations on the launch - as a reader (and Texan), it was well worth the wait. I'm excited to see how the Texas Tribune will flourish and positively affect our great state.
Best of luck!
