The Big Conversation:
Still reflecting on the election, U.S. Sen.-elect Ted Cruz says he knows why Republicans lost, and what they can do about it.
Speaking Thursday in Washington at a gala for the conservative American Principles Project, Cruz said Democrats won on Election Day not because of their ideas, but because they won the messaging war.
"Why did we lose? It wasn’t as the media would tell you: because the American people embraced big government, Barack Obama’s spending and debt and taxes," Cruz said, according to Politico, adding, "That wasn’t what happened. I’m ...

Cruz is right that Romney and Republican overall attitude about the 47% was the big problem, immigration hurt them in Colorado and the West

Ted Cruz' delusional leadership appeals to the crazy base but will lead to isolation and further diminishing over time. And a near future. Keep it up, Crazy Ted.

I can ignore the repugnance of what he has said, because it's expected, given his debt to Super PACs and Tea Party extreme types. But could we please hold politicians to account for forming sentences that actually contain articles and verbs and stuff? If I hear "life of the mother" used as a complete sentence one more time, I'm gonna lose my mind.

No, Ted, YOU don't get it- it was the "anti-anyone not white" rhetoric that came from your party.

well, Ted, just keep it up and it will be up to 81%

Can't wait for this second act of 'opportunity conservatism.' Loved how well that first act, 'compassionate conservatism,' has played during the past several years of economic downturn. Yep, there was sooooooo much private sector money turned loose to help the lowly and those in need. I think what Cruz is saying is he wants his party to do a better job of BS-ing the masses.

Cruz says whatever his rich corporate masters tell him to say and the stupid go crazy loving it.

Wow, look at all these biting hateful comments from the socialist party. He hasn’t been sworn in yet and the Libs already condemn him. For me, I’m happy Perry’s crony was turned away and we got a fully charged new senator to represent Texas.

I doubt that the Republican Party lost because a majority "embraced big government." The majority just didn't like Mitt Romney, and they do not believe that he represents the interests of most Americans.

Visule, Ted Cruz is never fully charged. Like most GOP legislators, his bulb never completely goes on. The GOP in Washington appoints all old white guys as committee chairs; Perry appoints his chief of staff as a Supreme Court judge with no judicial experience. Wonder why we're skeptical?

Democratic Xmas Charity Bash: Next Tues, 12/5: Join the Capital Area Progressive Democrats, the South Austin Democrats, the North by Northwest Democrats and the Travis County Democratic Party for their holiday party.
When: Tues, 12/5/12 5-7pm
Where: The Texas AFLCIO, 1106 Lavaca St. #200, Austin TX 78701
This year, the holiday party will have a charity drive for The Trinity Center, a homeless shelter.
Trinity Center’s simple wish list: jackets or sweatshirts (Large and XL), knit hats and gloves, socks, blankets and new or gently used sleeping bags. Don’t have time to shop? Just make out a check to Trinity Center. Donations are tax-deductible; small amounts go a very long way! Gifts can be brought to the party.
Trinity Center is a small-budget charity (501c3 but housed in St. David's Episcopal Church basement) launched with funds from the Barbara Jordan Foundation and with the guiding hands of longtime Democratic activists Diana and Doug Bell. The Center provides breakfast, clothing, computer training, counseling, social services and other basic services to thousands of Austin's downtown homeless people every year. Homeless people can use the Center as their mailing address and have access to email and phone service. In response to the brutal murders of several homeless women, Trinity has recently spearheaded a rotating venue among several downtown venues to host 50 women for "safe sleep" each night.
Thanks for allowing good Democrats to stand up for the least among us!
