The Big Conversation:
With national Republican leaders recuperating and reassessing after last week's election, a humbled John Cornyn has followed suit.
Cornyn, who as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee led his party's efforts to recapture the upper chamber for the 2012 election cycle, told Politico that Republicans have a "brand problem" and need to fix their image with minorities and females, whom they lost by large margins on Election Day.
"How can we convey what I believe is the true image, that Republicans actually do care about people of all races, ethnicities and classes in America ...

He's trying. Really, really hard. Like a cockroach flipped on its back.

They could start by putting a stop to the demonizing of people that don't agree with them and of anyone receiving public assistance.

Corn Dog: it is way less the rabid barking in public and way more about how you and your entire party votes. You will vote to tax millionaires and billionaires only if Dems give up protections of Social Security, Medicare and healthcare? How about for once in your life and in the life of most of your colleagues you show BY YOUR VOTES that Republicans actually do care about people of all races, ethnicities and classes in America? That would be a start.

Take acting lessons.

Start by not threatening to kill federal judges that don't vote your way (Terry Schiavo case).

Not LGBT though... Or is that all races that immigrated from Europe at some point?
Henry V Fitzgerald Jr via Texas Tribune on Facebook
If you have to ask that question, you are more concerned with image than substance - words, and not deeds. There's your problem raht thar, Big John.

Begin by dropping the tea party like a bad habit. Then get on your hands & knees & beg for forgiveness... Maybe, just maybe then, this generation will forgive/forget all the harsh rhetoric of these last few yrs.
Joseph Lippert via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Aw, damn it, chuck the image and actually do something!
Alex Cornell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
they cut off the quote: "... that Republicans actually do care about people of all races, ethnicities, and classes in America... until the elections are over."

John - simply do the things you say you believe every Sunday. You remember, that Sermon on the Mount thing?

Reverse the stance against planned parenthood, start respecting women's basic reproductive rights, and stop being rape apologists would be a good start.

Quit destroying the moderates, and propping up the misanthropes.

Try actually living Matthew 25.
Vibeke Mendonca Lee via Texas Tribune on Facebook
The fact that you even have to ask yourself that question should give you a clue.
Roger Chan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
show more minorities of color amongst the Party leadership
John Lyon via Texas Tribune on Facebook
What your party does speaks so loudly, we can't hear what you believe. As far as your beliefs - you continue to believe Saddam had WMDs, Obama is a Socialist, trickle down economics works for everyone, global warming is a hoax, evolution is just a stupid theory and that Romney was going win. Your "beliefs" don't have much currency in Reality Based Nation.
Joy Mitchell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Cornyn is as much a corporate-loving elitist as Romney. The only thing this creep cares about is himself.

you can't senator, because you don't.

Cornyn does not care. If he did he would NOT BLOCK those with differing opinions. There are many of us. He is nothing but a paid political hack!
Bambi Clark via Texas Tribune on Facebook
P.S. KBH does not block. There is one who at least will allow freedom of speech.
Gillian Parrillo via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Are you taking bets on Cruz, how long before he blocks us all??
Bambi Clark via Texas Tribune on Facebook
He already blocked me when I posed a few tough questions on his wall. Another bought and paid for elected official.

You ask ' How can you convey --- etc., ect., ect., ' well, try returning it accepting and practicing all of the words in the Constitution of these United States of America for openers.

Republicans can't because they don't.
Scott Nicol via Texas Tribune on Facebook
You might convey that image by NOT slandering and demonizing "people of all races, ethnicities and classes." You might give NOT disenfranchising non-white voters a try. I think the problem Cornyn is having is based on the "true image" part of the quote - he is trying to separate the image from the reality. Why can't people accept the image that Republicans want to portray, instead of focusing so much on the reality of Republican policies?
Suzanne Hardie Lander via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Caring about them only when they're doing what you think they ought to do and standing out by fighting their way up through your glass ceilings doesn't count.
Bill Eaves via Texas Tribune on Facebook
You can't when this is happening all over America..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL-a-r7iJIU&sns=em
Mac Mcclure via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I didn't see the Texas Tribune call any Democrats "humbled" after the 2010 elections the Republicans won up and down the ticket. So Obama wins by 2% and you think the Republicans need to cave to all your liberal ideas. NO WAY!!
Patrick Scroggin via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Actions speak louder than words. Quit trying to disenfranchise the electorate, listen to the voters and not the lobbies and compromise when need be. It's not rocket science.
Patrick Scroggin via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Dear Mac Mcclure...3 million more voters for Obama is 3.5 million more voters than George W Bush got. It's a mandate, Mac.
Lori Trammell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Bill Eaves has it right. watch his video link. we get what we subsidize....

I'd rather step on a large pile of dog poop barefoot than be in Cronyn's company.
Renee E. Babcock via Texas Tribune on Facebook
The best way to convey that perception is to actually do things that show you care about those groups, instead of giving empty lip service.
Vibeke Mendonca Lee via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Senator - have you read your party's platform. You should read it - that would give you an idea of how to start.

I'm not so sure he is upset I think this rhino did a good job for the democrats by make the poor choices he made and not attacking democrats when they attack republicans. It is like democrats can say and do any thing they want and republicans say any thing and democrats turn it into a crime? I say attack them and drive them from America back to Europe were they belong. God Bless America.
Damagoman Mago via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Well sir, I got a friend that asks, when the best time to plant a tree, then he tells you 20 yrs ago, the second best, Right Now. So sorry, but y'all done run out of time. and the Dems are just peeing on folks, tryin' to say its raining. Maybe its time for a 4th party too.
Lawrence L Thornton via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Senator, You can not fix a problem when you don't know what is the problem. Your stated question clearly screams that you don't, and that's the problem. I will be glad to explain it over a cup of coffee. Phone me for details 817 372 0197 . for real / no BS.

My guess is that bill that you guys are working on that reestablishes indentured servitude to the rich regardless of race, creed, color, religion or sexual orientation is not going to help you. So, you better not bring that one up, although I know you want to.

You can start by confronting the extremists in your party instead of standing by in cowardly silence when they attack Immigrant Families.

The reason I left the TEXAS GOP in 2005 was when I realized the Party Leaders had deafulted leadership to the right wing in exchannge for their titles.

The best thing now like I tell my own 21 & 19 year old children who can vote; register your friends & vote them out. DON'T TRUST THEM, EVER!
Ann Jennings Pharr via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Yeah and look at the source -- admirable guy Cornyn - OMG - The whole party is angry guys, bigots, liars and hypocrites, who will say what ever is necessary to get the vote - it has been proven over and over and over - they as a whole are not trustworthy nor worthy of my vote - if they are I vote for them - but here of late - no way they are going to have to earn my vote and trust - I am not even purple anymore, just blue
