The Big Conversation:
Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday upped his praise for former rival Mitt Romney, even suggesting that he could break Democrats' grip on the Hispanic vote.
On Wednesday, during a live taping of Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson, a video series produced by the Hoover Institution, Perry dismissed polls showing President Barack Obama handily leading Romney among Hispanics.
“You can spin it as many ways as you want, but at the end of the day, this administration that is currently in power has America on a downward trajectory — no sugarcoating it,” Perry told Robinson, a former speechwriter for ...

Yeah, right, Rick. Actually, what's happening is that Texas' establishment "Republicans" have turned into liberal Democrats because they think that's the only way to stay in power. Most of us conservatives will NEVER vote Republican again.

That will NEVER happen as long as harsh rhetoric regarding immigration continues to come out of Republican presidential candidates mouths - like during the primaries - or any other candidate for that matter. It will also NEVER happen as long as the Tea Party continues to cause such dissent throughout the country & even within the Republican party.
Perry is out of his mind - certifiable... Or he realizes the hole the Republican party has dug themselves into and is now trying to do damage control - but its too late for that, its too late for Romney and the other bozos to take back their words...
Perry can take that to the bank...

It's all ready happening. More and more Texas hispanics are turning to the Republican party for solutions. They are tired of the empty rhetoric from the current admistration in DC that promised immigration reform in there first year in office and instead instituted a deportation program the scale of which has never been seen. They have no excuse since they had both houses of Congress and the presidency during that year. The Democratic party seems to only like the issue of immigration during election years and then forgets about it. It's time for a new approach.

Membership in the Roman Catholic church is indeed an indicator of conservative moral values. Assuming the Mexican-American population of Texas is predominantly RC, a conclusion could be drawn that these voters will vote conservative values. In his book, "What's the Matter with Kansas", Thomas Frank lays out a scenario of conservatives appealing to values voters even though conservatives work against the middle and lower income voters. Hispanic, and other voters, are not swayed by rhetoric from Perry and other Republicans who cut funding for education, slash services for lower income workers, tout the wonderful advantages of letting insurance companies dictate the level of healthcare that people receive, show contempt for women's ability to make their own decisions, and preach at people struggling to put food on the table and make a better life for their children. All of us want the same opportunities that Rick Perry and Mitt Romney had when they were growing up. Enough money to get an education, access to great healthcare, and a seat at the political table. Romney is an aristocrat trying to pass himself off as a man of the people. Perry is just not that smart, but he plays ball. I believe that people are smart enough to know when they are being lied to, flim-flammed and manipulated. We'll see.

I agree with Jose.
The Republican approach is definitely not going to win over Hispanics.
I know where I came from and I will never forget. Republicans don't understand that and will never have my vote.
