The Big Conversation:
Texas officials' response to the Newtown school shooting has incurred the wrath of a Connecticut politician.
On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, a Democrat who represents a district close to Newtown, slammed Gov. Rick Perry for suggesting after the tragedy that teachers should be able to carry guns in schools.
"The notion that more Americans … in the words of Gov. Perry, 'packing heat' will make us safer is not founded in reality, facts or history," Himes said at a press conference in Washington, as Hearst reports. "It is founded in the fantasy of testosterone-laden individuals who ...

I don't like Perry much and lately I wouldn't piss on a Republican if he was on fire, but gun control is not the answer... They'll have to pry my guns from my cold dead hands...

Well, Rep. Himes, you are right, but you are talking about Gov. Perry, who can't remember three things his campaign had just spoon-fed him minutes before a debate, yet thinks his pistol with laser sight is an essential accessory for his jogs.

The 2nd amendment was put in the constitution so that the people can protect themselves from government tyranny, not so the people can hunt or for sporting purposes. All of the bill of rights is there to protect the people from the government. Back when the bill of rights was added to the constitution, the fire power available to the people was closer to the fire power available to the government, when compared to today. The idea is that the people can protect themselves from government tyranny. This is the highest law of the land. Additionally, banning guns does not stop criminals from having guns. How many years have drugs been illegal? Drugs are everywhere. Gun bans or restrictions only stop or restrict law abiding citizens from having guns.

What an idiot. The facts back it up. Police are not a preventative force, but rather a responsive force. Packing heat DOES make us safer.

Our money should stay in our country, for American citizens. Amazing Obama had money for failed green energy companies, chevy volts, abortions, gays getting married at West Point and of course obamanotcare, then he fakes a tear, please, it his agenda ! Also, what about the millions spent to keep his birth certificate and college transcripts sealed, you think he paid for it, not ! The guy is a screaming phoney and you have been conned.
The fact that we leave our children in a building where teachers, administrators and parents are not allowed to defend them is the only problem here. And it's disgusting ; we understand , but politicians don't. Its because they have an agenda. Its called Agenda 21. The New World Order. UN Control of the worlds population. ""over the last few years the Obama administration and Congress quietly LET FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SEVERAL KEY SCHOOL SECURITY PROGRAMS LAPSE IN THE NAME OF BUDGET SAVINGS .
...Government job hires molesting our children is okay, government drones maiming and killing women and children non-combatants in Pakistan, carpet bombing of women and children non-combatants in Libya is okay, government gun running providing weapons to Mexican drug cartels that are used on US and Mexican citizens is okay.,20 new F16 donated to Egypt is okay.. the Benghazi murder is okay ...and I don't see Obama shedding fake tears for those casualties. Well, at least we have plenty of funds to spend on TSA agents to search little toddlers and old ladies in wheelchairs on a daily basis! But THEY quietly LET FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SEVERAL KEY SCHOOL SECURITY PROGRAMS LAPSE IN THE NAME OF BUDGET SAVINGS .
They want Gun Control for citizens but Give guns to illegals as they are walked back and forth, to and from Mexico. Obama never seemed to cut funding to the Welfare, Food Stamps, Medicaid or "Obama phone" programs. He wasted BILLIONS of dollars on crony-connected, "green energy" boondoggles that failed miserably. Urkel made sure that all the ACORN affiliates/umbrella groups got tons of money to make sure the welfare bums made it to the polling places.....; has increased foreign aid by 80%, each year Billions of our tax dollars to just about every country in the world now. Over $300 Billion is spent on illegal aliens each year.
Billions spent on some of the most stupid grant studies,WHY A BEE FLIES ,WHY ASIAN WOMEN HAVE SEX WHEN THEY ARE DRUNK , A SHRIMP ON A TREADMILL , and on and on. There are so much nonsense they spend our money on. But THEY quietly LET FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SEVERAL KEY SCHOOL SECURITY PROGRAMS LAPSE IN THE NAME OF BUDGET SAVINGS .
Obamas plan...DISARM American Citizens...Arm his thugs.
Yea lets punish those guns ! My heart goes out to the children and families of that school but blaiming the gun isn't right . A gun is like a car or a knife or any other object that can kill if in the wrong hands . The children dont deserve this but a gun can't do any thing unless some idiot is there to pull the trigger .Blame the man not the gun .When our government takes away our 2nd amendment the right to keep and bear arms there will be nothing left to keep them from taking all our other rights. I personaly feel our government is behind all this anyway. The feds have access to mind controll drugs and they can make any one do what they want them to do.
HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT THE PLACES WHERE CONCEALED CARRY IS PROHIBITED IS WHERE THE BIG MASSACRES TAKE PLACE ???
I'm sorry for the families, but I'm more sorry that this whole thing was set up by the anti-gun crowd
What is the point? We live in a LAWLESS society where our leaders break our laws constantly. If they can do it why can't everyone else? We are too soft on criminals and unwilling to take action against those in our society who are a threat to themselves and others. We will see more schools attacked because it is safe for the criminals to go there. There is no one there that can fight back!!
If guns were made illegal, someone that wants to kill will get them anyway. People have to protect themselves, not be sitting ducks.
What is this country coming to with so much hate, fear and racism in the last 4 years. And will get worse in the next 4 years. The problem is not guns its VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES. Any question about that just watch one of these games * DOOM * a Horrific game that totally screws your mind.

If you have a whit of common sense, and it is apparent that is in question, you know that more loaded guns around more kids mean more accidents, more deaths of the unintended variety. Perry's inane suggestion is the equivalent of saying lets keep lots of gasoline around in case we have a fire and need something to put it out with. More guns has NEVER been the answer and never will be. Wake up and look around and compare the murder rates in the country to every single other so called first world county. Access to instruments of death, anger, and a culture obsessed with violence created regular powder kegs that result in frequent murders. How frequent, in a couple of years time the rates we are going, death from gunshots will surpass death from car wrecks as one of the leading causes of death nationwide. Now our Guv wants to mix kids and guns. Turn on your brain and think people. NO evidence suggest that more guns will result in less violence, but, that is exactly what Perry proposed. When did it become so common to make significant decision not based on evidence?
Robert Rader via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Yes ...but do you really think Perry is founded in any reality.
Samdavis
Once again rafaele, no one who is sane gives a rats patoot about your rambling. As to those who give the same lame excuses for unlimited guns, YOU LOSE, the moderates in this country will speak and override your lunacy.
Wilkins Micawber
Well, I agree with Rep. Hines that Perry and the teacher-toters are delusional, but it's not testosterone-fueled; it's something else.
Perry's sort of talk is cheap-schtick tough. It's the presto-macho overcompensation of a rooster than no longer crows at dawn without the little blue pill. It's the cry of a man desperately trying to hang on to his ebbing youth, his fading athleticism, insisting that he is still in the game. He thinks it's courage, or bravery, or perseverance to insist he's still a player because there are always suckers out there who will cheer him on; but it's not courage- courage is a virtue. This is desperation. It's what led OJ to murder and why Rusk chomps on big fat cigars. It packs football stadiums and movie houses with men living out super-hero fantasies.
Millions of men in this country are under-employed or unemployed. They will never have a meaningful job again, or play a meaningful role in society. They have been displaced as breadwinners, and they are no longer at the head of the family. They have nothing to do with their hands. They have no voice in politics, unless they can throw-down, and they have no money. They are, as the British so succinctly and precisely call it, "redundant".
All that's left them to prove their manhood is fantasy football, big trucks, and guns. And talk. Cheap schtick macho talk. This is what it's come to. All that way for this.
Really? The answer is to give a gun to a school teacher?
Jim Arnold
Perry is trash. He has said many stupid things but this ranks at the top.
But wait!!! Teachers can pack heat, Perry visits school. No more Perry!!!!! I'm for that.
