At this morning's TribLive conversation, Comptroller Susan Combs talked about the data breach on her agency's web site that inadvertently exposed the personal information of 3.5 million state employees and retirees.

That's comforting.

Or the lack thereof.

This was great..hadn't been downtown at 8am since session. My favorite part was when she declined to criticize the budget and just said "I like the entire legislature".

Bull.

I didn't attend this morning, but am wondering if Evan pointed out to her that in most identity theft situations, the person who has stolen your information often waits to use it for 18 to 24 months. I hope she's right and that none of the information will be used against the millions of Texans who were exposed, including retired school employees (some of whom are living are less than $1000 per month).

As an Austin ISD teacher whose position was eliminated, it was insult to injury to have my information exposed to potential fraud. We were given a 'free' credit security outfit to sign up with which lasts I believe 18 months. But, as Cindee said, my info could be at risk for much longer. I sure did not like Ms. Combs' attitude or responses.

Gee, the "trust me" response.
Thinking back to the lies that Combs gave Texans about her failed roll-out of the Energy Efficiency Program...we visited another state and it worked well for them, blah, blah, blah. Her office continued to say, do this early and upon following Comptroller directions, the system, both on-line and phone were inoperable. And then she went on to blame US for the problem.
Why would anyone trust any thing that she says that is CYA based.
Not buying any of this BS.
Why did she off-load data re: ARRA spending by TX DOT? Why did the data regarding # of jobs, # of hours paid, etc go dark.
Now tell me why I should "trust her"?

"I'm not going to tell you because I'm an idiot..." if it is fixed, there should be no fear in talking.

she's a vacuous idiot...but she's a TX GNOP vacuous idiot, so deserves percussive sublimation...

I like Colin Strother's comment best about the data breach in the Comptroller's Office: "I'm not going to tell you because I'm an idiot..." Amen, to that, brother. Mr. Smith suffers these fools (Combs, Perry, Riddle, Berman, yada yada yada) too gladly. I want him to grab these idiots by the throat and shake them until their eyes rattle in the their empty heads. Shame on Texas if Combs is elected to another office of public trust. I am frothing at the mouth as I write this comment.

This woman does not care about public education or educators. She went to a private prep school, then studied fencing at Vassar. In her spare time, she counts cows on her multi-million dollar spread. Nothing wrong with those things, it is just that we need to understand that she is one of the 1%. I wish the Trib would have asked her why the original letter that went to millions of public workers and retirees "explaining" the data breach did not include her name. I believe that is the only document I have ever seen from any Comptrollers Office that did not include the name of the Officeholder. She makes me want to puke.
