A Conversation With AG Greg Abbott
For the 11th event in our TribLive series, I interviewed the attorney general of Texas on the politics and constitutionality of gay marriage, why he's suing the feds over health care and why he filed a brief in support of the Arizona immigration law.

But he won't help the 300+ homeowners who have filed complaints against American Home Mortgage Servicing Inc. and the AG's in several other states sued on the basis of deceptive practices. (They also won). Guess he feels this wouldn't give him enough publicity.

Just FYI: On 8/30, Abbott's office sent out a press release on this. Here's the first line:
"Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today charged Coppell-based American Home Mortgage Servicing Inc. (AHMS) with using illegal debt collection tactics and improperly misleading struggling homeowners."

Will that help the homeowners in distress? Massachusetts put a hold on all of AHMSI foreclosures.

I couldn't listent to more beating around the bush. Why can't he just answer the questions?

States have done such a wonderful job throughout this country's history of taking care of all their citizens. Example, women being able to vote, women having credit in their own name or being able to own a business in their own name, women being able to enter any college they choose. It took federal action to override the states by threatening a constitutional amendment to get the states to finally pass some laws to address these issues or by citizens actually passing amendments. Don't talk to me about how "fair" state government by the "good ole boys" is for those who aren't in control. Our AG is simply following the dictates of our governor in his reelection effort. He is a puppet in my opinion and thankfully at least at this time I am still entitled to my opinion. The interstate commerce clause is at issue in the Adam Walsh Act but I don't hear the AG opinning on that issue. AWA is unconstitutional. Why doesn't he file a lawsuit on behalf of people who are trying to get their lives back after paying the penalty proscribed by law?

He uses the typical narrow-minded libertarian view that maximizing liberty is the only purpose of government. Never mind that you cannot have either Liberty or the Pursuit of Happiness (economic vitality) without Life. To ensure the most liberty, you must have health care to ensure the life and freedom of citizens. More liberty is lost when people die or are disabled by health issues than is lost by the transfer of wealth through taxation.
The only good outcome of this lawsuit against the healthcare bill is that it will give impetus to a more Canadian style system. I am still amused at the GOP handwringing over the health care bill considering that the President's middle ground approach was, in part, to gain support from pro-business Republicans!
