I'm thrilled to announce that Mark Miller — most recently the editorial director of Newsweek and the editor of Newsweek Digital, and previously an assistant managing editor for Sunday and enterprise reporting at the Dallas Morning News — has agreed to join the Trib's staff in mid-December in the newly created position of editor. Reporting upstream to me, he'll run the site's day-to-day editorial operations, working closely with Managing Editor Ross Ramsey, Assistant Managing Editor Emily Ramshaw and all of our talented multi-platform journalists to enhance and expand our coverage of politics and policy as we head into an already fascinating legislative session.

This is a great coup for us, and for all of you who read the Trib each day. Mark is an exceptional veteran editor who understands the particular challenges and opportunities of news-gathering in the 21st century. He shares our fundamental institutional belief that ambitious, aggressive, nonpartisan public service journalism is what Texas needs right now. And he's a Texan: born in San Antonio, raised in various small towns, educated at SMU.

I cannot possibly imagine a more capable partner in crime or a more welcome addition to our team. Texas journalism — the evolution and the revolution — will be so much better for his return.

Texans need truth. Help us report it.
