Perry Blasts Obama Over Border National Guard Drawdown
A decision by the White House to reduce the number of National Guard troops on the country’s border with Mexico has provoked a fierce but expected reaction from Gov. Rick Perry, a longtime advocate for more boots on the ground in Texas.
The Obama administration's proposal, first reported by the Houston Chronicle, would free up funding and shift the emphasis from personnel on the ground to aerial surveillance procedures, the newspaper reported. There are currently about 1,200 National Guard soldiers on the border, about 250 of whom are operating in Texas.
Perry, who has long requested a ...

Just heard this on NBC, I think! The DEA discovered an underground tunnel from Tijuana to San Diego used by drug smugglers that's eight feet high and six feet wide and equipped with rail tracks. That's not even the worst part of it. It was paid for by a stimulus grant for high-speed rail.

After leading his campaign and the State of Texas over a cliff, Perry keeps up pretense he is relevant . . . aw, he's wearing the jacket again.

He has not been relevant since oops...

The money was spent fighting a war that didn't bring any results. Bush was a failure

Perry hasn't heard that there are lower attempted crossings than at any time in decades? The border is fine EXCEPT for the stupid fence, which is an environmental disaster
Stanley Moore via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Terry if you believe the high speed rail story; I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

Studies have shown the alleged rampant crime along the border to be highly exaggerated and immigration flows are more tightly coupled to economic opportunity (i.e., a growing economy) than anything, though improved security certainly factors in as well. This is just more desperate fear mongering for the Republican base.
And if you want to stop drug tunnels and the like*, dramatic changes to the failed war on drugs and quelling Americans' demand for drugs will do more than any border measures ever will.
*the tunnel exists but I sincerely question the veracity of claims of it being paid for directly by stimulus funds, which smacks more of FUD

Make it easy for him.. TxDot is paying money to build new sidewalks
for school children to use when walking to school.. Do you know
who the workers are ? I was told last week by a person that would
know..his words not mine " Wetbacks".. they have been working
on this over a year on hwy 281.. I was told TxDot knows, I was
told Rick Perry knows (someone called his office and told them)
since I heard it, I have asked several people and they all know..WHY
wasn't local people without a job hired to do this work. ???
only one can speak English, the rest do not understand or speak
English.. I do not know who is to blame, but someone should look
into it.. and is this what Perry calls finding jobs in Texas?? You
cannot guard the border.. The responsibilty for hiring anyone from
Mexico should be responsibility of the American that is hiring them.
If they quit they should be sent back to Mexico.. Like a green
card with a sponsor/employer in Texas..all US lost crops in the
field, no one would pick the fruit or do that kind of work..
Peaches, Berries, etc rotted in the fields.. BUT I DO NOT THINK
THE TAXPAYERS SHOULD HIRE THEM WHEN TEXANS NEED THE
GOVERNMENT JOBS...THAT IS AWFUL...and someone should
investigate TxDot..an outside firm or Texas Rangers, FBI, IRS.
someone..

Stanley, of course I don't believe it.........it's a joke.

This sounds right in line with the Obama Desire to have open borders and let the whole world in. Personally, I feel the desire of US Citizens should be considered before what the Mexican President wants.
Let me ask you, President Obama, are you getting a rake off from the Cartel Operations inside the US?

Lordy lord, when will Perry can it? After spending millions on closed circuit cameras along the border, and millions more on deployments of DPS, neither of which could point to an arrest (that's top secret info.!) its time for him to take a crack at undoing the damage to Texas that he is personally responsible for. Leave the border to the feds, and see if he can scrape up a few bucks for education. Maybe moving out of his $10,000 per month rent-a-mansion?

.... Over a year for new sidewalks for children? Do you know who the workers are? Of course I know! my coz Miguel was there. new sidewalks for Lil Anchor Baby Joe!

It was 100+ degree weather that is WHY
Tim Tukaram Spotswood via Texas Tribune on Facebook
They have brought back almost all our troops from Iraq, why not use the money they were using in Iraq to protect our border?
Sergio Hernandez De Santos via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Or have the troops poured the sidewalks?

Obama could posse in the toilet and the anti-christ would criticise him.

Yawn. Another day, another thing Perry attacks Obama on.
He he offers real solutions, then we can talk.

Much of that "failed federal stimulus," $3 Billion in education alone, went to....drum roll.....TEXAS.
Give the federal stimulus back if you truly call it "failed," you failed governor. And while you're at it, how's your SECESSION plan going?
Stupid, stupid man, that Perry. Stop talking if you can't say anything that even I can see right through and turn around in your face within two seconds.

I still cannot see how a person who has spent most of his life in elected office can become a millionaire.....shoot, I haven't gotten a raise in three years and nobody elected me for the job!!

Looks like it is being fairly effective from a standpoint of narcotics seized and deterring crossings. I have heard through the grapevine it is a lot harder to cross now than in the past and individuals crossing on their own is down. Three reasons for the change
1. The economy is down and there are fewer jobs. Those illegals here are having a hard time making it so they are not as able to support new comers taking them in and helping them until they can find work.
2. Increased boots, air assets, have made it less likely one will make it across successfully without coming into contact with law enforcement without assistance of coyotes who have insight into the operational aspects of BP. They know when and how they patrol and know the weak points as this is a business to them and keep tabs on the overall operational control of the BP
3. The cartels control all access to the border , from both sides. Those crossing from Mexico are unlikely to make it through cartel controlled areas without paying the toll. As well those coming from the U.S. side are subject to inspection by cartels and having their valuables confiscated , being held for hostage and ransom. Even shipping of goods is regulated , and transport companies are paying the cartels to truck goods to and from both sides of the border. This is in essence a tax that Americans are paying.
As far as safety itself , the border areas are as dangerous if not more so than they ever have been for those traveling through the area. The myth that the border is secure or safe is just that, a myth. Anyone who thinks it is safe i would challenge them to go there and cross on their own and see what happens.
Perry was criticized for rejecting the education money with strings attached at first , then he is attacked for being a hypocrite for accepting it. As well with the Stimulus money . The point is some will attack him no matter which way he goes.
Jim Hsu illustrates this position perfectly. On the one hand quite a bit of that money went to the direct benefit of Teachers , schools and such , not that it did any real good , because when it runs out , which it has, they will just have to ask for more to maintain the status quo. On the other hand he calls for Perry to give it back if he thinks it was a waste. I can hear the cries of outrage now if he were to even consider doing that. Just because it was considered to be " Free money" nobody out there who got any of it would turn it down . Whether it did any real good or served any greater purpose is not the point. Even if it could be proved it was a 100% waste of money the ones who got it would not give up one dime.
This type of thinking is what is wrong with the whole idea of government subsidies and the notion that government creates self sustaining jobs that do not require the continual funding by the government. The private sector creates jobs that are self sustaining and do not require constant , continual , and ever increasing funding by the government. Private sector industries or businesses either make a profit and continue to function , or they lose money and go bankrupt. Public sector or government created jobs do not possess this characteristic. They do not sustain themselves or produce any product or service that PAYS FOR ITSELF !
This is the difference. In no way does this mean that certain of these services are unimportant or are not necessary. Government is a necessary evil as noted by our founding fathers and numerous others. It really becomes a question of exactly how much is necessary and how much can you afford? There are many in the country that view government and all it has to offer and provide for them , the same way a child would view a store that only sold candy. The store is full of all types of things they would want to have , the question is how much can you afford? The point to remember is that our government is of the people , for the people and by the people. Any person alive and breathing , is one of the people. In one way or another it is paid for by those very same people. Asking for more is all well and good, just remember nothing is free , there is no such thing as free money, and each and every Citizen will pay in some manner. It may not be readily apparent , but rest assured you will be paying.

Remember a vote for a democrat is a vote for Obama and homosexuals, illegal aliens and terrorist.

More proof that Obama is incompetent if he he thinks our border is secure enough to remove the National Guard!
