Here's the thing--if the U.S. ever wants illegal aliens to stop crossing the border, we're gonna have to get tough with the Mexican government. Exactly as this article suggests, we say out one side of our mouth that we don't like illegals and we want to prosecute them and we're like "OMG! Illegal Mexicans cross carry drugs, they're so bad...blah blah blah," and then on the other side of our mouth we're saying "Hey, wanna come help hoe cotton this summer? I'll pay you SIX dollars an hour," and congratulating ourselves on how rich we're going to get. We need to take a hard line and tell the nationals seeking asylum that we will arm them with information and training and they need to band together to put down the corrupt government and the even more corrupt drug traffickers. It's time for Mexico to make a stand--sure, many of the people there are uneducated and poor. Sure, it sucks to live in a country where you don't know if you can trust the police or not. BUT...if no one ever attempts a change, how will anything ever get done?
I just find it interesting that we live with such duplicity in our attitude toward Mexico and illegal immigrants. I have lived all over Texas, including in the Valley, and there are definitely immigrants just coming here to try and make a better life for themselves--don't those people deserve a chance, like our forefathers did? There are definitely immigrants crossing over just to bring drugs--don't those people deserve to be shot, just like our forefathers shot those who intended them harm? There's gotta be a better way.

Why seek asylum when all they have to do is walk across? That's the main reason they are not seeking asylum.
