Hunger Study: One in Four Texas Children at Risk
One in four Texas children was at risk of going hungry in 2010, according to a study released Monday by Feeding America, a charity focused on relieving hunger.
The study found that 27.1 percent of Texas children face food insecurity, lacking consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s definition. That number places Texas 11th -highest among states and the District of Columbia in percentage of food-insecure children. The study also says that Zavala County in South Texas has the highest rate of food insecurity in the ...

Suggestion to poor people: STOP having children you cannot support!

Thank you Tommy....exactly my sentiments. Stop having babies and then expecting taxpayers to feed, them , clothe them and shelter them. It gets tiresome. If you live in a place like Crystal City and you're surrounded by poverty you'd have to be pretty stupid to miss the fact that poverty is oftimes associated with children. So why would you perpetuate the poverty cycle? And why should I be expected to feed your children?

Think about it. Children growing up with memories of hunger risk....children growing up in an autocratic society with hunger risk. What paving stones are being laid here? Sounds like the kind of experience that would create grumbling and gallows humor (as well as gallows themselves). Let them eat cake?
What happens when there is despair and a popular abandonment of faith in democracy? He who does not know history is condemned to repeat it.

On the one hand we have childhood obesity which is rampant . In order to combat obesity in general we need the government to ban the sale of sodas , trans fats, sugar, and regulate what can be sent to schools in lunches . On the other hand we are told millions are starving , which I believe to be BS. I have not seen anyone,, child or adult ,that even closely resemble the pictures of starving Ethiopians. Where is the PROOF? I want to see pictures and real starving people ,, not just be told they exist ,,, somewhere?
Most of these so called starving children look like they have not missed any meals. The people that I see using their Lone Star cards look like they could use a gym membership to go along with them.Maybe just cut back on the ones getting assistance now and spread it around a little more. They could actually grow a garden and get a lot of food that way,,, but then that would take effort . Keep pushing harder for the poor, starving lazy pukes and there will be a backlash against them. I already resent being asked for more and more every year to feed, house, provide medical care, pay for them having babies and educate people who are not related to me in any way at all.

The first two paragraphs clearly state the dire predicament the multitude of TEA-Republicans in Austin have created. But look at all the money they are throwing around calling each other names and slamming each other with such vile comments.
Does anyone wonder how they can sleep at night knowing they have created this food and hunger insecurity in Texas. Instead of spending all that money on vanity offices and plush cushion-y chairs to sit their rears in, they could adequately fund food programs around the state and really make a difference. I don't think that will happen in our one party state.
I suggest cutting the budget of state legislators in Austin by 50% since they haven't done their job. They have too much time on their hands to call each other out over petty BS. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander! Vote out the majority of TEA-Republicans in Austin including the Governor who failed miserably on the national stage with his "Deer in the Head Lights" look before he flamed out, crashed and burned just outside of his hometown of "Oops-ville."
