Simpson Files for Speaker, Wins Backing of Hughes

Update, 2:04 p.m.: Erin Daly, a spokeswoman for Speaker Joe Straus, issued a statement on David Simpson's entry into the speaker's race and Bryan Hughes' exit: 

Speaker Straus enjoys support from a majority of Republicans and Democrats in the House, and rather than campaigning for the position, he is focused on leading the House as we prepare for session.
