Judge: Texas WHP Can Proceed Without Planned Parenthood
A state district judge on Monday refused to grant a temporary restraining order allowing Planned Parenthood clinics to participate in the Texas Women's Health Program. The Jan. 1 launch of the program can proceed as planned, the judge ruled, until a trial challenging the state’s rule excluding Planned Parenthood is held on Jan. 11.
"We are pleased the court rejected Planned Parenthood’s latest attempt to skirt state law,” Lauren Bean, a spokeswoman for the Texas attorney general's office, said in an email. Bean said the state “will continue to defend the Texas Legislature's decision to ...

Texas: leader in teen pregnancies and Republican stupidity

Never mind that the law is a bad law, right Ms. Bean?

pleased, yes, very pleased!

more burden on Texas taxpayers paying for all those Medicaid babies on Rick Perry's delusional health care system

not to mention the fact that sexually transmitted diseases will undoubtedly increase because Texas Republicans exist in the Victorian mindset of the 1880s when 1 in 5 had contracted syphilis

More teenage pregnancies. More untreated STDs. More STDS. More women without their yearly exams to catch early detections of cancers and other. Great. Can't wait.

I find it very interesting that this article goes out of its way not to name the judge.
His name is public record. It's Gary Harger.

Just one more thing to make Texas look ass backwards! Sad for the state & worse for the women affected & providers of these women. (IF THERE WILL BE ANY LEFT! YOU KNOW HOW MANY HAVE DROPPED OUT!!!???)

And that's "leadership"? Pathetic.

It's interesting that this article in the TT doesn't name the judge. One wonders why. His name is public record. It's Gary Harger.

It's tantamount to murder. Rick Perry will have the blood of dead women on his hands.
I am a patient of Planned Parenthood through the TWHP, the results of the first pap smear I'd had in over 4 years came back showing pre-cancerous cells. Now that funding is shut down, where am I supposed to go for follow up testing and potential care? How long will I have to wait?
Planned Parenthood provides MORE than abortion services you dumb@ass, they save women's (and men's) health, fertility, and potentially, their lives.
Thank you Mr. Perry, I'll make sure my kids mention you by name at my funeral.

Thank you, Kurt.

Let's see: Texas blocks the Law of the US as determined by the Supreme Court in Roe vs. Wade and the Republicans are proud of it????????
Jonathan Trammell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Which law of the US was blocked.......last I checked abortion was still legal in TX that doesn't mean the state has to pay for it............ But the Dems in Chicago continuing to undermine the Heller decision and keeping legal guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens is OK I am sure...............
Debbie Spencer via Texas Tribune on Facebook
The state doesn't pay for it. Geez! This is just one more back door tactic to make sure nobody gets abortions in Texas. Wake up and smell the coffee already. Vote these narrow minded idiots out of office.
Lori Trammell via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Go with the science. Abortion kills a baby. Can't get around that fact.
Robert Ellzey via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Only in Texas can the state judge ignore the US Supreme Court!
Steven E Haskett via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Robert, I don't think that's what the court did here. Abortion is still legal, the state doesn't want to pay for it. Owning a Glock is legal, but if the state won't buy me one that's not the same as overturning the second amendment.

Lori, science and the past show that Texas will screw up this whole endeavor badly. The real murderers are those like you who don't want people to have affordable insurance or birth control. You are personally responsible for many more deaths and much more misery than those you criticize. Your unwavering support of an uncaring GOP agenda shows a lack of concern for knowledge or humanity. Your hypocrisy is staggering.
Rudy Gonzales
Rick Perry, the streaking Texas Turkey who flamed out over Oopsville, proving to the whole world his stupidity, incompetence and ineptness as he makes a mockery of Texas and Texans. This yay-hoo mocks the federal government, forgoes millions to make a point and will crash and burn one more time. Join the crowd wanting him to leave office voluntarily as he has over-stayed his welcome. Federal law trumps Texas law in this case and the people will make their say viable soon!

It is a great way to start the year: The murderers a pp are NOT getting state funds to slaughter children. Yeah!

Another policy disaster from the alternate universe of the GOP . Planned Parenthood has been the trusted provider of women's health care and reproductive services for many years and has been responsible for PREVENTING many thousands unwanted pregnancies---to say nothing of how many women who have received health services and preventative care. But let's not worry about practicalities. I am sure the GOP is completely willing to use the rainy day funds to take care of the thousands of babies who will be born and be in need of medicaid---and day care and some temporary welfare til the moms can get on their feet to go out and get work. Closing Planned Parenthood effectively shuts out thousands of women from access to birth control and health services and without a doubt, will result in many more unplanned pregnancies, botched abortions, as well as an increase in stds and other health problems. As they have proven over and over again, the right wing can wax eloquent on protecting fetuses but has very little concern or compassion once those babies are born into low income families. But never mind all that, when the GOP needs to be right and ideologically correct, reason (and compassion) will always take a back seat. It is a shame that we will solidify our position, probably set new records as the nation's leader in unwanted teen pregnancy. We are a national leader, as Perry likes to brag about, but many of these are not things we should be proud of. Shame on Rick Perry and the GOP for another colossal policy failure that will make Texas the kind of leader we will be ashamed of.
Samdavis
Anya, why don't you rephrase your comment to "Yay, women are going to get substandard care and die". That's the real effect of this ruling.
Bill Asher
Robin, Perry and Abbott are donning their SS uniforms and Rick doing the goose step while Abbott is sining Deutschland My Deutschland now that they got the ruling they wanted.
richard jung
Why should any public funds be used to pay for a private organization.
V Marshall
WOW a whole lot of partisan drama on the comments section. So everyone certain that low income women can't afford a $0.24 condom is asinine. There is no reason that teen pregnancy and STDs should spike unless you are suggesting that these women are too stupid to understand that a cheap condom can prevent BOTH. And when ACA in FINALLY in effect, all these women will have access to FREE women's health care and contraceptives from ANY primary care physician, but yes they will have to enroll in a plan from the exchange.
As far as I'm concerned, Perry wasted a huge amount of money on court challenges just to make a political point. There was no reason for PP to receive ANY state money after 2013, anyway and it will probably take that long for this case to wind through the court system.
