Poll: Voters Want to Keep Planned Parenthood in WHP
Fifty-nine percent of likely Texas voters oppose Gov. Rick Perry's efforts to keep Planned Parenthood out of the joint state-federal Women's Health Program, while 38 percent approve, according to a new poll from Public Policy Polling.
But the poll — released as the reproductive health program circles the drain — is likely to have critics. It was sponsored by Planned Parenthood, whose clinics currently provide reproductive health care for 40 percent of the low-income women in the program.
And some of the language in the poll questions is hotly debated by Republican lawmakers and abortion opponents, who say they are ...

Even though I'm a supporter of PP, you can't take this poll seriously. It's not even worth a story. TT is usually better at sourcing their information.

Republican double-speak, through the looking glass, darkly.

PP forbiddance, riduculous.

I don't know that anyone is an "abortion proponent". No one wants to have to have an abortion. It's about whether or not we should have the right to choose or is someone (gov't in this case) should choose for us. More likely, "anti-choice" supporters will critique this. If we could get media to start using the correct (in my opinion) nomenclature then we would at least be having the same discusion/argument.

This is great news! Let women choose their health care providers, and let voters choose who can stay in office!

Most of the time when I read a Trib story on women's reproductive health, I finish reading the article wondering exactly what the writer is trying to say. I don't mean to be critical, but I feel like the writer thinks the audience is only those who have a master's in public policy.

Are we tired of caring what anti-choice people think?
Donna Rene Johnston via Texas Tribune on Facebook
This is great news? Really? A poll released A YEAR AFTER the Leg cut funding, a year when the Leg is not in session and therefore, will have EXACTLY ZERO impact? Women's Health Centers will be shut down at the end of March, and NOW we take a poll.... I dont get it. The Governor will do nothing, the Leg is not even around.... Great, a poll....

Correct nomenclature is "pro-life" or "anti-life". PeePee is very much a proponent of abortion. They are in the teen-sex business, determined to encourage youth to begin early and to have sex anywhere, anytime, with anyone, consequences be dammed. After all, they are always there with their abortion services, for when (not if) their contraceptives fail.
Jarred Wilson via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Kevin Williams, you are so terribly misinformed.
Bambi Clark via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Because the vast majority of voters are rationale and not misinformed like above.
Lee Dunkelberg via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Anti-abortionists try to control the debate with words, as they have no facts and often few manners.
Karen Bice via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Ah yes, no manners. Like the GOP spokesperson, Rush Limbaugh.
Aldo Merino via Texas Tribune on Facebook
We're talking completely, utterly, I-literally-have-no-idea-what-I'm-talking-about misinformed.
If PP were actually in the 'abortion business' they're not doing a terribly good job of it. Point in case:http://goo.gl/PhzQD
Moreover, if someone actually didn't care about their consequences, regarding sexual behavior or general health, they pretty much by definition wouldn't visit a PP...much like if you didn't actually care about having an honest debate, you wouldn't actually research your facts.
Your PeePee debate is complete poo-poo, Kevin.

I think my Irish First Cousin (several times removed) Oliver St. John Gogarty sumed up the problem Gov. Oops and friends have with groups like Planned Parenthood that do not do it exactly the way they want it:
"I think it is high time the men of this country found some other way of loving God than by hating women."
Mitchell Bosworth via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Kevin Williams, you nailed it, brother!
Narissa Johnson via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Kevin Williams: I don't want to burst that fantasy world you live in. BUT: healthcare and access to birth control are not JUST for women. when I get pregnant it's just as much mine as my partner's.
oh, and this accountability and responsibility anti-choice people want to say that denying access to birth control makes people take is bullshit. I am taking responsibility for my sexual activity with my partner... i am ensuring that he and i have safe, consensual sex that doesn't result in a pregnancy neither of us are ready or interested in.
Kevin, join the discussion when condoms require a prescription and cost $90/month.

Pro abortion is fine, just don't ask for taxpayer's money.... If women are concerned about control over their bodies, use that control before involving another life.
Judy Burns via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Tax payer's money has not been spent on abortions in the this country in a very long time. Now the issue is that some don't want taxpayer money to go to any entity that might be affiliated with an entity that might have had something to do with abortions. Sort of a 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon thing, only about abortion.
Susan Blount via Texas Tribune on Facebook
How about making the MEN use a little control? How many pregnancies occur because the man insisted?
Rick Scott McGuckin via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Hello- ABORTIONS AREN'T FREE- women (and/or their partners) have to PAY FOR THEM.
Bill Eaves via Texas Tribune on Facebook
BS Texas is better than that!! Get out of Texas!

This poll has ZERO credibility. PPP, a left leaning pollster, contracted by Planned Parenthood, a wholesaler for abortion. Really? Who'd they ask? Former Planned Parenthood clients?
Aldo Merino via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Speaking of zero credibility, critics would have more traction if they actually familiarized themselves with the status quo and the facts of the issue rather than engaging in extreme rhetoric like 'pro-abortion', 'wholesaler', and other such nonsense. Not one critic here thus far has even demonstrated basic familiarity with the issue they seem so passionate about, which raises some concerns to say the least.
It's not even about disagreeing on an issue, because half the people here don't seem to know what they're actually disagreeing with.

PP develops a very important role in women`s health. 1 in 5 women in America have or will go to PP at least once. Not everybody has the money for private clinics. I support them.

Some people are just watching too much FOX News, I use the term news loosely, but not as loosely as the screws in their heads!

Leave it to Rick Perry and the Texas Ledge to blame others for their misdeads. Next Perry will find a way to give Ag property tax exemptions to those living in Sun City and allow Red McCombs to scam taxpayer again yet continue to complain of, 'Vulture Capitalism.'
We're getting closer to tOrwell's "1984" where everything is upside down.
David Spratt
Not surprising the same people that support PP are mainly liberal Democrats. They seem to ignore the fact that Margaret Sanger , the founder, had views that would have made Adolf Hitler an avid supporter had she lived in Germany in the 30's and 40's. Had women been allowed into the KKK in her day she would have been right at home in the mainly Democratic organization.
I understand the fact that agnostics and atheists are taking over and will become the majority in the future with the mythical baby Jesus and the Bible being on the same shelf in the library as Grims Fairy tales. Today though , I cannot see how anyone who would profess to be religious could justify abortion as Gods will or support an organization with taxpayers $ that holds this position and being founded by a person with such vile and hateful viewpoints.. When conducting yourself according to individual religious beliefs, the standard should be what would Jesus do? I cannot pretend to speak for him , but I do not believe personally aborting children would be high on his list.
It is each individuals choice, and will be judged eventually. Do as you will , but forcing others to accept and pay for these services as an acceptable means of population control is wrong.Personal responsibility and a working moral compass would go a long way in preventing unwanted children from being born. This issue is just a symptom of the moral decay we all face , human life has lost value and simply become a matter of economic interest and a political tool.

The Planned Parenthood should not take tax payers money since they help kill the unborn. Besides we already have these idiots passing out stuff to our children. The Parents should take care of there children and the best way is not to teach children it is okay to go out and have sex. But now democrats expect tax payers to pick up tab for everything. Well guess what hell is around the corner and the piper will expect to be paid. China and others will come and what to be paid when our bonds and money is no longer value. Workers think they will be able to hold on to the pensions well think again when every thing hits rock bottom and know money or lenders dry up.
A great battle is on the way and only thing to stop it is remove Obama and democrats from Office NOW. American people and main street media cause this mess and American people will be the only peaceful way to get out of the mess.
Anyone BUT Obama and democrats!

It is disgracefull that TT would base an article on this poll. The editor should be ashamed.

Perry and his buddies are just plain wrong about this issue. More men trying to impose their will over women. Stupid.

Abbott is lying - but that is nothing new - he'll put that on his resume: LYING - GREAT!!!!
In the same way, the ridiculous and perpetually wrong P Venable - talking head for TX rendition of AFP is trying to tell her "followers" that TX didn't change the rules - which is more BS.
TX GOP are essentially telling 103K women: WE DON"T CARE IF YOU GET CERVICAL CANCER OR BREAST CANCER, now please die quickly and quietly.
And no one included me in their opinion poll.

During the PPACA in DC, a fox news reported: We're gonna have a government rationing body that tells women with breast cancer, Your DEAD. (this attack was meant to terrify it's followers)
Fast Forward a few years:
Perry and his GOP legislator's have decided that here in Texas Women can die of breast cancer and do that without even a diagnosis.
