Feds to Halt Funding for Women's Health Program
Federal health officials announced Thursday what state leaders have predicted for weeks: that they are halting funding for Texas' Women's Health Program.
Cindy Mann, director of the federal Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, said Texas left her agency no other choice by forging ahead with a rule designed to force Planned Parenthood clinics out of the program
"We have no choice but to not renew their program," Mann said. "... We very much regret that the state of Texas has taken this course."
The Obama administration believes Texas' plan to exclude Planned Parenthood from the program violates a federal ...

Perry knew this would happen. This is what republicans want. Texas health benefits are terrible. If you are poor in Texas, don't look to the state to help. Especially when republicans are at the helm. These good christians could care less about anyone but themselves. I hope they don't break their arms patting themselves on the back for what they think will end abortion in Texas. Those of us who really care about our fellow Texans will remember your arrogance and self-righteous attitudes when we all head to the polls in the next several elections.

This is beyond disappointing. How can Republicans claim this is a states' rights issue when 90% of the funding for WHP came from the federal government? What's more, while Rick Perry and the rest of the evangelical GOP fight this "States' rights" issue, myself and over 100,000 women will go without cancer screening. There's really no other word: Fuck.

This state government is an embarrasment!

I guess Anita Perry wants to prove some kind of a point. What it is, I have no idea, unless she wants to show what a good christian she is so when she is back off the public dole her society club ladies will still invite her to their functions.

A sad, yet preventable, day for all of Texas' women. Please, Perry, tell us how you are going to replace all this funding without making Texans even poorer than they already are.

He doesn't care. Newt's offered him the Speaker of the House position. It's going to take several years of voting straight democrat to put the Texas House back in order. I hope democrats never forget these dark days.

It's not Speaker of the House, it's President of the Senate, but yeah. Rick doesn't give a shit. He hasn't given a shit since he started on the presidential campaign trail, and tbh, it was questionable as to whether he gave a shit when he got re-elected.

Dan, I was just talking to Howie about this. As you may know, our governor passes a terrible bill re women's reproductive rights. Maybe time for women to stand up and speak up.

He has never cared about the people in TX. Maybe he can give up that 10,000$ a month manson and put it towards womens health care. He is already spewing about running for President in 2016. Vote him out next election. I do not know how we in TX got him again as Gov. He is arragant, he said he never backed down from anythng while he was running for President. Well he backed down from that. And he backed down from the HPV vaccine. Vote and get everyone you know out to vote in the Presidental election for Obama. That is how we wil stop these who want to take womens rights away and poor peoples rights away. Turn TX blue.

Don't forget Perry couldn't have done this without a lot of GOP and particularly TEA Party legislatsors. It doesn't take a lot of voters to change an election. The problem is the bigots vote EVERY election and Democrats vote when it's convenient. Get out and vote and drag everyone you know. Don't lose your outrage and identify the culprits by name as often as possible. My state rep was Randy Weber (R-Pearland) who is running for Ron Paul's US House seat.
Who is yours?

The TEA-GOP-Republican running Texas do not want to follow the rules that govern everyone else. They fight by placing the poorest of poor who have no insurance at the mercy of their wits. In their contentious, arrogant, and wrong-winged, elitist position, the Texas political leadership have thrown the most needy under the ambulance. Texas Medicaid funding comes from the federal government but run by Texans. Adding to this mix is the concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the concentration of power in stricter, less compassionate hands at the local level. Make no mistake, the Terrifying Errant Activist(TEA) party are alive and thriving in local and state politics. About 29 other states have programs similar to the one in Texas, and all of them except Texas are continuing to participate in their programs with federal support. Tells you what Texas' one party has strewn onto the most needy of residents. If you are not registered to vote, get registered! Get out and vote! Then get out the vote!

I am trying to understand what this means. I do not know any woman who goes to Planned Parenthood for her 'hearlthcrare". Are we making this issue about indigent women? Female Illegal aliens? I wasn't even aware that "planned Parenthood" was a 'free' clinic! I assumed it was where women went to get abortions. I USED to think it was purely for obtaining birth control products.
However, the Democrats have opened my eyes! I have learned THEY make millions off the abortion racket, as well! Wholesale slaughter of more than 4000 unborn babies a day! How can anyone justify this?

It’s time for the government to stop the BAIL OUT of the abortion industry and Planned Parenthood!!! Women’s health should be the highest priority of publicly funded programs, instead the Obama administration's priority is protecting their political allies.
The only time a woman sees a doctor at Planned Parenthood is when she is there for an abortion. There are more than 2500 medical providers, including many OB/GYN’s and physicians, family planning centers and community health organizations, registered in the Texas Medicaid-Women’s Health Program that are available to provide high quality healthcare. Thank you, Governor Perry, for standing up for poor women in Texas who deserve a chance to see a physician for their annual exams, birth control and cancer screenings. It’s a great day to be a Texas woman!

Funding for Women's Health Program is really very good thing to improve the health of the women and make them healthy and fit. This plan will definitely help the women to improve their health and solve all the health issues which is also affecting on the social health.

I am not understanding what federal law has been violated. If a woman can still choose any eligible Medicaid provider, what is the problem so long as there ARE other providers? Private insurance works the same way - if your doctor doesn't accept your insurance you have to go to another one.
