Texas Railroad Commission Candidates Target EPA
WICHITA FALLS — One overriding theme unifies the Republican candidates for two Texas Railroad Commission slots: The Environmental Protection Agency has overreached and must be scaled back.
"Let me tell you, these people can ruin your life," state Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, said last week at a forum in Wichita Falls that was organized by the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers. "If they ever require an EPA permit before you drill a well, your lease will expire."
Roland Sledge, a Houston lawyer who has specialized in oil and gas for 35 years, spoke repeatedly of the "relentless assault" by the EPA ...

If the oil and gas industries are going to continue to accept government subsides, then they will be subjected to government regulation. If you use our tax dollars, then we need to make sure they're being spent responsibly. If they don't like it, then no more subsidies. 'Nuff said.

What can ruin our lives is if one of these dinosaurs gets the job. Is the GOP going to continue to control Texas or can the sane take over now. If it was up to these people with no social morality at all, our state will become the first state to be declared a toxic dump. All these people are nothing but paid mouthpieces for the oil industry.
Relentless Assault by the EPA simply means that the slimeballs keep getting caught and don't like it. What we really need is someone who will stand up for our children who will inherit our toxic waste dump, we now call Texas. The oil industry just drops its pants and does the dirty deed right next to our homes, schools and work places. It appears that money trumps even our childrens' health.
This state needs a strong Railroad Commissioner to protect us and this is our chance to get into the fray. Where can we find a great Democratic candidate that we can vote for before we are up to our tushs in poisonous water, toxic earth and unbreathable air. The GOP already control much of our lives because they have control over our budgets. Our officials do not represent the people but the GOP and they could care less if we have clean water, unmutated seafood and clean dirt to walk on.

You would be hard-pressed to find a more craven pack of industry mouthpieces than this lot. Becky Berger even comes right out and says it: "We have two brand-new people who are not from the industry, and it's getting ridiculous." In other words, if you are not from the oil and gas industry, what are you doing on this commission?
The TRRC reminds me of nothing so much as a soviet-style commissariat. Of the three commissars, two are appointees by Comrade Perry. Come, let us drink to his health. You do wish to drink to the health of Comrade Perry, don't you?
The corruption in Texas politics rises to the level of high art, if not comedy. And now we have "Don't Pee on Me", Mr. Roll'on Sludge in ascendency. Good Gawd.

I would hope they'd consider Texas Oil and Gas Authority (TOGA) for their new name. Dressing in sheets while testifying would be cool..
