Is the Texas Legislature Raising Utility Rates?
Several bills working their way through the legislative process are likely to send Texans' utility bills up, consumer advocates say.
On Monday, the House approved a bill that would allow electric utilities to raise rates to pay for projects like building electric poles and wires — without first going through a lengthy regulatory review process, as is customary now. The Senate has already passed a slightly different version.
Similar legislation on the gas side is pending in both the House and Senate; it would streamline the rate-raising process for those utilities, which help heat Texas homes. A House bill that would ...

Nice try Sylvester but the GOP considers this a regulation and I thought that when they deregulated the Utilities industry that this was suppose to help drive down cost. The argument was increase competition to decrease cost. Hahaha 10 years later.

Why are the Republicans against working people?

I'm glad electricity has been deregulated. Now I don't have to deal with TXU anymore.

Another rightwing scam to tax working people (without calling it a "tax"!) brought to you by the Texas Republican Party. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accumulation_by_dispossession

Let's face it, Texas has gone down the tubes since becoming a one party state back to baby boy Bush! The only one who will pay for this are the lowest paid or on welfare, and in that case we all pay for this! The elderly and disabled will suffer while the richest two-percent laugh all the way to the bank! Texas has been a red state and has continued to go down the tubes since Texas became a red state! Our Career politician, Rick Perry, has been influential in making Texas a one party state which in turn has made for extremely dissatisfied electorate. All this brew-ha-ha about spending too much is pure rubbish since there is no equitable taxation across the board to all Americans. Add to the the continued deductions allowed to mega corporation along with their subsidies, the Congress has released these big boys to gain and reap huge benefits at the expense of American taxpayers. People who do not see this are fooling themselves. Lower Taxes has never produced jobs or the economy. President Obama may not change or take Texas, but we are in dire need to be a two party state!

Texas already has the highest utility rates in the country. What are they thinking? Our wages are down, no raises, no increases, more fees, higher taxes, higher gas prices, higher grocery prices.
We can't manufacture the dollar like Bernanke does and no one is bailing out the consumer.
Texas people again voted for Mr. Big Hair, who has done nothing but cheat the little people, and he robs from the highway fund and then claims we are short in that fund though he has plenty money set aside for his friend Red McCombs, who he is building the NASCAR Race Track for.
