Anger Surfaces at EPA Shale Gas Meeting
Many residents of Fort Worth are angry and scared about natural gas drilling: That much was clear from a public meeting convened there by the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday evening.
The meeting, which drew more than 600 people, was intended to gather public input ahead of an EPA study (requested by Congress) on how groundwater is affected by hydraulic fracturing, a process that involves shooting a mix of chemicals and water deep underground to break up rock and extract gas (which is plentiful in the Fort Worth area). Gas companies say the process occurs far below the water table ...

The Railroad Commission is plainly admitting that they have no method at all for detecting even low levels of ground water contamination if they stick to the narrative that there is absolutely no contamination at all anywhere. At a minimum they should at least detect contamination that they would dismiss out of hand as NOT resulting from fracking (or drilling or pumping). Either way - PR Fail.

There were 600 people at the meeting last night but they did not all come from Fort Worth. I saw people who were staying at the hotel from Lousianna and Arkansas. People spoke in opposition of hydralic fracturing from Lousianna, Arkansas, Oklahoma, East Texas, South Texas and West Texas. I personally am from Denton Texas and recognized several people from Denton, Flower Mound, Corinth, Dallas, and Decatur. This is not just a Fort Worth problem but a multi-state and multi-community problem.
As I state last night the industry and state regulatory agencies can argue all they want regarding water pollution caused by hydralic fracturing. The fact still remains in 2009 the water use in three states for hydralic fracturing was as much as 230,000 people consume in a lifetime.
In comparision this would be like taking the water supply away from Lubbock Texas for all it's residence for 70 years or 1 generation of people.
This water was removed from the environment forever.
Those are the proven facts which cannot be denied by industry or states.
