SBOE Votes Down Church-State Wall in History Books
In a party-line vote, the State Board of Education moments ago voted down an amendment that sought to teach students about the value of separating church and state.
The amendment, by Mavis Knight, D-Dallas, read: "Examine the reasons why the founding fathers protected religious freedom in America by barring the government from promoting or disfavoring any particular religion above all others."
One of the board's most ardent social conservatives, Cynthia Dunbar, R-Richmond, gave an impassioned rebuke of the historical evidence for church-state separation, ultimately calling it simply inaccurate.

This is great. Iran has a theocratic democracy too! They have their Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Khamenei. We have the SBOE, our state-religious indoctrination council.
Maybe the lege will pass a resolution making Iran our sister country ... Go Republicans!

I don't think there is anything that gives me more pleasure than when stupidity of the State of Texas become National news.
The idocy brought forth by the Legislators of Texas cause all the comedy witers in all the media to work to pale in comparison.
The idea that Texas would even consider some of the crap that comes out of of these Evengical crazies is a comedy on to itself.
One thing that bothers me though. Aren't there any Texans who do want to be made the laughting stock of the United States? If so, where are they. Why do these extremists keep getting elected to office and why isn't anyone fight back with fervor.
We are on the precipice of raising a generation of idiots - it's raises the questions of child abuse to misinform school children of the real world around them. It certainly handicaps them when competing for (say) jobs anywhere else in the U.S.
Enough from me, I don't think anyone cares anyway!

Conservatives win because they have definable values for a distinct universe of the electorate. They simply excel at politics -- they're masters at the message and the vote.
Liberals, on the other hand, are generally inept at politics, allow themselves to be defined by Conservatives, and have an ambiguous agenda at best once in office.
Many people do care, but the current state of our political process is a mess. There is so much misinformation, flat-out lying, blatant preying on fears and prejudices, and disingenuous contrarianism on the part of Republicans; and lack of message strategy/discipline, leadership, and constituency loyalty on the part of Democrats -- all with the complicity of our nation's media, financial and intellectual leadership -- reasonable people in civil discourse have no place.
There is no danger of our country raising a generation of idiots. We are that generation.
