SBOE OKs Resolution Alleging Muslim Bias in Textbooks
After a spring filled with bitter culture wars over textbooks, the Texas State Board of Education reopened the fight today with — what else? — a fight over alleged "pro-Islamic/anti-Christian" bias in Texas textbooks.
A measure decrying such bias would pass 7-6 in a largely party line vote, but not before some four hours of debate — on a non-binding resolution that ultimately has no force of law. It merely sends a message to textbook publishers, members say.

I am a conservative Christian... I take my faith very seriously... but the SBOE has gone seriously cuckoo. Make me embarrassed to be a Christian. Have they actually read their Bibles --- how Paul dealt with those who were worshiping other gods and idols --- with respect. Have they read how Jesus dealt with those self proclaimed religio-political leaders who were trying to bind everyone to comply with their Jewish traditions (which Jesus shared) --- with derision. If the SBOE is going to claim to use the Bible as their standard for textbooks... then let's at least require that they actually read it. Let's start having a Bible quiz at the beginning of every SBOE meeting... and if you score less than 70... then you are not allowed to reference the Bible, religion, Christianity, or Judaism in that meeting. That should simultaneously chap off the ACLU and shut up the religious wacko wing.

As much as they claim to be against "political correctness," these SBOE have clearly created their own version (and are attempting to embed in law). Some of us get a dramatically different message from Christ's teaching and would appreciate it if fringe politicians quit trying to spread their own twisted meaning of the terms "Christian" and "conservative."
