Brian Russell, who has previously served on the State Republican Executive Committee, will likely run for the State Board of Education in place of far-right member Cynthia Dunbar.
"I would expect that if she does drop out, that she would endorse me," said Russell, who filed today to run for the state board.
Dunbar said via email she will be making a public statement in the next couple days. She's currently teaching at Liberty University Law School in Virginia, and didn't say whether she's made up her mind.

Does anyone else take issue with the apparent announcement by the jounralist here that Brian Russell will win the primary. The use of "will likely" implies Brian Russell is a lock for the Republican party candidate. Why would the Tribune all but ignores the other candidate in the race, Rebecca Osborne - who by the way, is actually an experienced educator with a PhD in education. It would certainly be a novel idea in Texas if those in charge had experience, understanding, and a background in the field! Why doesn't she get equal publicity here?

burtrw, Ms Rapoport says that he will "most likely" run not that he will most likely win the GOP nomination. The story here is that the incumbent is leaving and attempting to replace herself on the SBOE with an ideological peer. Dr. Osborne's candidacy was not triggered by Ms. Dunbar's withdrawal, but Mr. Russell's entry was.
I am confident that, as the campaigns advance, the Tribune will provide equal publicity to each candidate and each race for the SBOE.

Cynthia Dunbar is an extremist who does not work for the best interest of children. I can only imagine that someone she has hand picked will be more of the same when what we need is to bring the focus back to children and education, not promoting extreme far-right ideology.
