Texas Schools Prepare for a New Kind of Posse
Starting this fall, high school seniors in the Houston Independent School District will have an opportunity to vie for one of 30 golden tickets to a unique higher-education experience.
Teachers, principals and community leaders will get to nominate students to become members of the city’s inaugural “posses” — groups of students from large, urban districts organized by the Posse Foundation, which sends them to elite colleges and universities as a unit to serve as a pre-established peer support network.

POSSE is phenomenal program - each year it has a huge impact on students, their families & their communities.

I see this is going to be a one way street for picking there favorite student or students. How about letting grades and thing like that pick the kids for the posse elite. All Im saying is teacher and others have there favorite students and this would not be fair to the students that are not in the click of the chooser.

I couldn't care less if Obama is for it or not. It's a non-profit that sounds like an excellent program for putting individuals with leadership potential in better position to do something with their lives. Strategically, these are the types of organizations that Republicans in Texas need to start backing.
