Texplainer: Taxpayer-Funded Sex Classes?
Hey, Texplainer: Is it true that taxpayer dollars are funding sex classes taught at gender and sexuality centers on state university campuses?
Last week, state Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, revived an effort to tackle one of the major problems he sees with university campuses: gender and sexuality centers.
Specifically, Christian is concerned about centers for students that focus on “gay, lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, transsexual, transgender, gender questioning or other gender identity issues.” His attempted amendment to a fiscal bill last week would have banned using state dollars for such centers and, he said, prevented similarly themed student groups from ...

SEX EDUCATION IS ESSENTIAL!!!!!! Dallas TX is #1 in REPEAT TEEN PREGNANCY. I would rather my tax dollars go to informing kids (and adults) about one of the most basic, pleasurable, and natural animal behaviours EVER, than the FIVE WARS we are waging in the Middle East
GET A GRIP PEOPLE!!!! You dont want abortions, but you also dont want to PREVENT unwanted pregnancies?!?!? So, what, we have a population of poor, uneducated, unproductive people because you'd rather not contribute to an uncomfortable conversation?
IF YOU DONT THINK YOUR 16 YR OLD IS HAVING SEX, YOU.ARE.A.MORON.

Thailand reduced their HIV infection rate by NINETY PERCENT, and reduced their family sizes from an avrg of 6 children, to 2.5 by having a unified, cohesive, and complete family planning program. This lifted MILLION out of poverty and gave women a chance to be small business owners and entrepreneurs, where once they were simply baby factories.

I think the "safe and fun" part is what drives them crazy. Kids, especially girls, having fun sex without paying the price? The horror!

In truth, by obstructing access to education, family planning, and pregnancy prevention, I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the conservatives have DIRECTLY contributed to MORE ABORTIONS, than Planned Parenthood has prevented.
Stop making decisions based on antiquated notions, superstitions and unconscious bias. It's 2011, let's make policy based on FACTS, DATA, INFORMATION, QUANTIFIABLE RESULTS.

Some people gripe just to gripe. What a waste of time of debate in the Texas legislation.

I believe Christian's concern was that State dollars are being used at centers for alternative lifestyle students. His argument was that the same dollars are not used to "teach" traditional lifestyles or values. Since the author has proven that state money is in fact used to pay one of the folks that taught the gay fun class, the Representative's argument is valid.

Somebody in the Texas Lege needs to look at the problems with teen pregnancy, and STD's in Texas..... and work to fix that. Sex education is a plus in preventing both.

"Texas A&M should not be using taxpayers', students', and donors' money to teach unchaste sexual behavior to young, unmarried men and women."
This story didn't publish the full quotation. He proceeded to ramble on for over an hour about how kids these days with their hippity-hop music need to get off his lawn, and how he had to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow, and how back in the day men were men and women were women and America didn't have Arabs sneaking into the country to put Sharia laws in the water supply...

I don't really understand Justin Pulliam's complaint. Do the Texas Aggie Conservatives receive funding from the state? If his group holds meetings on campus, it does--at least indirectly. I don't hear anyone suggesting that his group not receive funding. If he wants to get funding for a group that affirms "traditional values" (whatever those may be), he should quit whining and start one.

I don't really like my tax dollars going to fund these conservative blowhards, but I'm not going around trying to strip their funding. Free speech and whatnot. What really gets me is their complaining about there not being a traditional family values organization receiving funding. You want that? Then start one, for god's sake. Don't go around trying to get rid of the competition.

The Texas Aggie Conservatives are just upset because they can't get any (sex).

Sorry Aggies, turns out your school is just another UT. Haha!!

We all know the aggie jokes but I never thought it was so bad that they had to take a class on "changing the temperature of one’s mouth.” :O
