Texas Universities Hold Steady in U.S. News Rankings

Well, Southwestern and Austin Colleges were ranked 60 and 63, respectively for top Liberal Arts Colleges. Not too shabby.

It's also important to note that there are other categories for higher education beyond "national university". Texas is full of very highly regarded schools outside of this category, like Trinity University, Southwestern, and Austin College.

These rankings depend a lot on enrollment. Take a look at the public universities ranked higher than UT on this list. Their enrollments are capped at something like 25k or so students. UT ranks very high on this list overall but is hurt by its high enrollment.
For UT and A&M to rank in the top 30, they'd have to cut their enrollment down to less than 30,000 students. That's not going to happen anytime soon.
