"In Texas, only UT, A&M and Rice University fit the criteria. In the last legislative session, a bill was signed authorizing financing to upgrade one of Texas’ seven “emerging research” universities. Those schools — now competing for the Tier One designation — are UH, UT-Dallas, University of North Texas, UT-Arlington, Texas Tech, UT-San Antonio, and UT-El Paso."

Such poor reporting:
"But public university salaries at all levels have been on a steep upward trend line in Texas and nationally — the average salary has nearly doubled since 1994 " Trying to imply that salary rasies at public university are out of line. Gee, let's check and see what the overall rate of infalation was in the economy over that time period. Gosh, it was 48.31% or almost 50% , exactly the same as the rate of increase for public university salaries. How about a little in depth analysis or thoguhtful reporting guys!
