With a terminally ill/dying inmate won't the majority continue care on taxpayer money? I guess some have families who would pay for medical care but they certainly won't buy their own healthcare. Is end of life care significantly less outside prison walls? Life in prison should be life in prison. It's punishment and if an inmate is cognizant he will know he's beat the system. I understand budgets and compassion but these people were sentenced to a specific term for a reason - they earned it.
