Texas Inmate at the Nexus of Execution and Abuse
SAN ANTONIO — St. Clare’s is a small church with a tight-knit congregation in this impoverished south side neighborhood, a place where neighbors come for a respite from the gritty streets.
But in the 1980s, it became a place of fear and shame for children who allege they were victims of sexual abuse by a prominent priest.
One of those alleged victims is Humberto Leal, a death row inmate who in 1995 was convicted of raping and bludgeoning to death a 16-year-old girl. His attorneys this week filed a clemency petition on his behalf. They asked Gov. Rick Perry and ...

This POS raped and killed (bludgeoned) a young girl and wants to blam it on the church. Goodbye, Humberto, and good riddance.

I suggest he get the same clemency he provided the teenager.

Humberto should get the same treatment he inflicked because I believe in Karma. What goes around comes around, the seed you plant, so shall you reap. It is always a matter of time. When ones supports executions, either siliently or out loud, they are murders!

Looks to me to be a case of " looking for a second bite of the apple." They had their chance years ago to pursue truth and justice, IF that was their goal? It seems they reached " settlement" and chose another avenue. Could that have been financial gain over principal and morality? The avenue they have chosen to walk has turned out to have unforeseen consequences, and now they are trying to get a " do over" so they may turn left instead of right. Should be a lesson to all , and one they should live with. There is a reason the road less traveled is what it is, but the easy way is not always the best way. Perhaps Gods way of pointing this out?

The murderer is guilty; the punishment should stand.
That priest and whoever covered up his disgusting crimes should go down too. Those who turned a blind eye are negligent. If it were MY child, I'd hold every last person involved responsible and accountable.

it's a good bet that most of those on death row were probably physically or sexually abused, but Texas is a notoriously cruel state with a long, long history of injustice, racism and ignorance
