Minorities Drove Texas Growth, Census Figures Show
The state's explosive growth during the past decade was fueled by a boom in its minority population, which accounted for 89 percent of the total increase in population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Hispanics alone accounted for 65 percent of the state's growth over the last 10 years.
Census officials said late last year that Texas grew 20.6 percent during the last decade, to 25,145,561. The new numbers released Thursday include data for counties and cities, all the way down to the city block level. The widely anticipated decennial population numbers will be ...

Texas should get more Hispanic legislators based on the percentage of increases in Texas. Redistricting should be to guarantee Hispanic legislators gain office to the proportion of their population in Texas. There will shenanigans based on Perry and the Republicans actions in the past. This what you get when there's a one party rule in Texas! The Republican party has been bought by the well-connected and fully funded. We're not laughing here in Texas! Texas has been awash in red tape and mismanagement for too long. Rick Perry is a career politician with no real world experience, who forces his warped narrow-minded religious beliefs on Texas women instead of addressing the 16 billion dollar budget deficit! These guys are so out of touch and a good example is Rick Perry of Texas. Texas has beeen under Republican rule for quite some time now. So how is possible that we are running a deficit? Elections matter people. If you don't vote you can't complain. VOTE next time.

Where's the jobs?Texas has been under a "Conservative" Republican rule for quite some time now. So how is possible that we are running a deficit? Conservatives should have seen the writing on the walls and fixed the issues. Elections matter - people! If you don't vote you can't complain. VOTE next time.

Immigration is a Federal issue not a state issue so how exactly was Texas supposed to "fix" the issue? You can't have 50% of your babies being born to Medicaid moms every year, and have a sustainable tax base. Perhaps the reason the population changed the way it did is people can see the writing on the wall. Perhaps the low growth in the white population has more to do with net migration. I know I am making plans to leave Texas because it is on a financially unsustainable path that has nothing to do with the party in power, but rather where the growth is occurring. I could care less what the ethnic make-up the state I move to has, but this state is too hot, too humid, and too ugly to put up with high taxes. It is going to be interesting to watch what happens when Democrats get elected in the next cycle and grapple with the structural defects in spending and revenue generation. I am glad that I will be watching from afar though as that is also when Affordable Care takes full effect.

When it comes to participation, (or in this case circulation?) it is certainly more than apathy, disinterest, completely close to non-influential, or some other negative characterization which speaks to my being only the third commenter in the 10-plus months since this article was published.
