Study Finds Fracking Chemicals in Drinking Water

A new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has found traces of chemicals used in the fracking process in the drinking water of three homes in northeastern Pennsylvania.

A study published online by the peer-reviewed Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has found traces of chemicals used in the fracking process in the drinking water of three homes in northeastern Pennsylvania. The chemicals were found to have come from shale gas wells more than a mile from the wells used for drinking water — marking the first time contamination of shallow drinking water sources from shale gas wells has been documented.
