A recent study found that young students received far more homework than was developmentally effective, while high school students were not being challenged enough at home. A first-grader's ideal homework time was 10 minutes long, and each subsequent year of schooling adds an additional 10 minutes to that total. Thus, kindergarteners are better served untethered from worksheets, and high school seniors stand to gain from 120 minutes of work. (Slate)
