But experts, including UT-Austin psychology professor Rebecca Bigler, warn against separating boys and girls. Gender separation is thought to increase prejudices based on stereotypes and has inspired the ACLU to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Education against several programs, including two new single-sex middle schools in Austin ISD.
