Treemap: What Texas Inmates Buy

Inmates in Texas are allowed to buy common household goods from prison markets, known as commissaries. The following treemap visualizes nearly $100 million in purchases made during 2009 by grouping them in categories (dry goods, grooming, etc.). Rectangles change in size depending on the number of times an item was sold. Color represents annual sales by dollar amounts.
