Interactive: Special Sessions, 1971 to Now

On Wednesday, Gov. Rick Perry called the 11th special session of his career, less than 24 hours after his 10th called session came to a close. History has shown that Perry will not hesitate to call lawmakers back into special session if there is something he feels needs to be addressed. He hasn't shied away from adding subjects to the call for lawmakers to work on, either.

Perry entered office in 2000 on the heels of a long drought of legislative session special sessions — six regular sessions without a special. The first special session Perry convened was in 2003 and was the first one the state had seen since Gov. Ann Richards convened one in 1991.

Use the interactive below to view all of the special legislative sessions that have been called since 1971, and to see what issues each governor ordered lawmakers to address.
