On Wednesday, Gov. Rick Perry called the 11th special session of his career, less than 24 hours after his 10th called session came to a close. History has shown that Perry will not hesitate to call lawmakers back into special session if there is something he feels needs to be addressed. He hasn't shied away from adding subjects to the call for lawmakers to work on, either.
Perry entered office in 2000 on the heels of a long drought of legislative session special sessions — six regular sessions without a special. The first special session Perry convened was in 2003 and was the first one the state had seen since Gov. Ann Richards convened one in 1991.
Use the interactive below to view all of the special legislative sessions that have been called since 1971, and to see what issues each governor ordered lawmakers to address.

Thanks so much for pulling all of this together. Reading the lists of specials since 1980 brings back lots of memories, good and bad. Amazing when you work in and around the Capitol how meaningful these otherwise arcane issues and sessions can be.
Debbie Mason via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I can not wait until we vote him out. He is not good for the people of TX.
Stanley Moore via Texas Tribune on Facebook
What a hack.

Perry2014!
Andrew Goldberg via Texas Tribune on Facebook
somehow they have to pervert the vote or their dumb asses will be out on the street or at n*ggerhead in dick perry's case.
Andrew Goldberg via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I'm reasonably sure the Texas GOP should be indicted for voter fraud and election fraud.
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Well Debbie, he is far better than any Democrat that has run for that office.
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Interesting that Redistricting has been a special session issue before! No surprise
Neil Moyer via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Just shows, can't leave things alone, and can't get things done in regular session; stop the madness!!!!
René Cardona via Texas Tribune on Facebook
If it weren't for all the injustice Perry has done to women and minorities, and the poor, he'd be okay. I mean, Texas' cities have seen so much economic success. He did something right despite all the wrong.
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Neither did Ann Richards or Mark White!!
Neil Moyer via Texas Tribune on Facebook
expect better from GOP...
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Sometimes Neil, you have to corral the legislature and focus them on the business they should have gotten done. A Special session does that
Neil Moyer via Texas Tribune on Facebook
just more opportunity for lobbyists to wield their $$$...
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Furtheremore, having redistricting as a priority during a regular session would have meant further gridlock. It was appropriate to handle it in a special session.
Neil Moyer via Texas Tribune on Facebook
gridlock is good, stop nonsense...
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
LOL, Perry has not committed injustice to women and minorities. That is a myth by those who wish to promote victimhood.
Jenn Sparks via Texas Tribune on Facebook
What!?! A political windbag running out of steam??? It must be some devious diversion of wind-power mafioso or maybe the Texas drought is really that bad!
Samdavis
Another idiotic response from Matthew, no surprise.
Steve Boudreaux via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Perry will win re-election and you're just bitter because your girl KBH got her ass kicked in 2010.
Matthew Cowan
Poor Samdavis, as usual, has nothing to say.
Samdavis
Your comments speak for you Matthew, they say"here is an uneducated putz who doesn't have the ability to think critically."
Debbie Mason via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Steve Boudreaux LOL I would of never of voted for her either. Gov Perry will not win re-election.
Debbie Mason via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Bil White would of made a great Governor.
Debbie Mason via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Matthew Cowan LOL you wish.
Debbie Mason via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Matthew Cowan and you know this because your a women right and your poor or a minority. Get your head out of the sand. Gov Perry is not good for TX.
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
NAw, the only thing Bill White did was to dig a bigger hole debt wise for the City of Houston.
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
Debbie, people have been saying that about Perry but have been proven wrong. It again could be a the case in the future!
Matthew Cowan via Texas Tribune on Facebook
I know this because I can actually look at the facts. The State is doing well and the economy is moving unlike other states dominated by Democrats that are still in recession.
