Advocacy Groups Target Private Prisons for Immigrants
The unnecessary prosecution of nonviolent illegal immigrants is sending ever larger numbers to poorly managed private prisons, a coalition of advocacy groups said in a report released Thursday, calling on Congress to reject the appropriation of $25,865,000 for 1,000 new private prison beds.

This is a clear example of the privatization for profit attitudes of the TEA-Republicans in charge in Austin. The attitude of management of these facilities speak loudly of the bigotry and prejudices towards undocumented in America. These are privately held, wholly-owned facilities with profit in mind, only profit.

Conceptually, private prisons should be outlawed. While our the size of our prison population is, in and of itself, a symptom of problems in our society, private prisons are a symptom of even bigger problems in society in that citizens are not electing and hiring public officials who are competent enough to manage government agencies and departments in accordance with legal requirements.
Prisons for profit? How much transparency is there in awarding these contracts and in managing the prison system?
How long since anyone looked closely at the parole system and process? Should there be more accountability and transparency for those who serve in those roles? Should there be a special commission of citizens, mental health professionals, and judges to review the prisons and the records of all of the people who are incarcerated with a goal of reforming the prisons and determining which incarcerated individuals can be re-integrated into society with a realistic and achievable plan to sustain themselves? Citizen mentors?
It takes a village.

Mr. Owen, it is refreshing to hear someone articulate a common sense position so well. I think a large majority of people would agree that it is time to stick political correctness, back in the hole it crawled from.
