Report: DREAM Act Could Mean Billions for Texas Economy
Granting legal status and paving the way to citizenship for an estimated 2.1 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. would generate approximately $329 billion in economic impact by 2030, according to a report released Monday. The study also says that Texas itself would see an impact of $66 billion.
The report, a joint effort by the progressive Center for American Progress and the Partnership for a New American Economy, estimates that passing the DREAM Act, which would allow certain undocumented immigrants brought to the country at a young age to work and apply for residency, would generate that ...

The current state of affairs in my beloved Texas is no less important than the battles between the Progressive Sam Houston and the regressive Maribeau Lamar. One wanted us to move ahead and be a leader, the other was convinced that the past was the best for Texas. The Dream Act propels Texas into the future. We need it for our state to once again become a leader in the world and to take care of our citizens that call Tx home.

The first two paragraphs tell the story - It's the TEA-Republican's who have consistently failed to bring the "Dream Act" to the floor for a vote in the Senate. The Act itself has been discussed, derided and decided by both sides and was ready for a vote, but the leaders of the TEA-Republican's decided to hold it up and not allow Obama to get any good press.
That's one good comparison - $148 billion versus $ -0- to consider when voting this November. There is a negative surrounding people of Hispanic/Latino origns which comes from their portrayal in movies and TV, which have exacerbated and stigmatized the Hispanic/Latino's with false colors.(pun intended) Every American has the same goal no matter their ancestry. Take a look at Julian and Joaquin Castro of San Antonio, Texas. They have attained the American dream even against the odds and barriers placed in front of them.

yea right...Americans are onto the Prog push to obliterate this country into Third World status while the rosy picture of economic boom would apply to the Bush oligarch class only. The boom in food stamp dependency and the Harris Co. Hospital District costs of illegals breaks one hundred million every year. We are not even getting started on costs of incarceration and education and the huge BOOM for UNIONS! Also American Citizenship shares values will plummet DOWNWARD! LMAO! what a total crock of propaganda pushed these two prog tanks....

Well we should easily be able to see that economic bounce over the next 2 years as these kids now have work authorization! Can't wait to see Texas' coffers fill up with additional sales tax revenues and to see the huge impact these young people have on the US Treasury receipts next April!

“The $148 billion in higher earnings that result from DREAMers being able to work legally and achieve greater education leads to increased spending on goods and services such as houses, cars and computers,” said Juan Carlos Guzmán and Raúl C. Jara, authors of the report. “This spending ripples through the economy, supporting another $181 billion in induced economic impact, the creation of 1.4 million new jobs, and more than $10 billion in increased revenue.”
Texas would see 282,500 additional jobs, along with $1.91 billion in combined income and business tax revenue, according to the report.
This is simply a bunch of baloney. If there was a need for an additional 300,000 workers in Texas we would have the lowest unemployment in the nation.
There will be no more demand for these people tomorrow with a green card than there is today. How is giving people a piece of paper going to create the main thing needed to create jobs,,,, and that is, DEMAND FOR PRODUCTS OR SERVICES. There is not enough demand now, that is why the economy is contracting. Simply adding more people to the workforce,, which is arguable since they already exist, will not create more demand or more wealth to fuel that demand.
If handing out green cards is the answer to all our financial problems we should be placing them in every box of corn flakes.Perhaps we should just be giving this status to average Citizens who are out of work if this is the difference between being employed or not?
Most of these people are already working and paying taxes,,,,,,, that is one of the main arguments of their advocates and for them being such valuable immigrants to begin with.
So is the truth of the matter the fact they cannot work or do work and do not pay taxes now,,,,, but with a green card they will?
SO WHICH STATEMENT IS TRUE ?
They will have the ability to compete with American Citizens for jobs that they currently hold where proof of residency or the legal ability to work is required , thus adding more competition into that workforce.
Beyond that the real truth is not much will change for them . They will continue to be unemployed if they are unemployed now. If they are employed they will continue to be employed. If they pay taxes now they will continue . If they pay no taxes that will continue also. The only thing that will change is the fact they can no longer be deported, while living life exactly as they do now.
Handing out little pieces of paper will do nothing to change the dynamics of the economy of the nation as a whole ,,,the interdependency or the factors influencing the world economy. While touting the benefits of the dream act the advocates ignore the basic rules and laws of economics and put forth an idea which they would like to be true but in reality will not change the manner in which an economy functions.

A report by the progressive Center for American Progress and the Partnership for a New American Economy ... in other words, propaganda. And you guys report it as "news."

They're NOT citizens, Jeremy. That's the doggone point. You can give them all of YOUR money you want, but you can't give them a DIME of mine.

Why let the illegals take the jobs and places in our universities and colleges. There is a high unemployment rate already and if there were all these jobs availabe why aren't the unemployed employed this proposal would only add drastically to the unemployment rolls costing us more taxpayer $$$ since they would be legally allowed to work they would legally be allowed to collect unemployment along with the benefits they receive being here ILLEGALLY--DEPORT THEM ALL..

These people just don't get it. ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL. Another form of amnesty is stupid and unfair to those that have come to the country LEGALLY.
