Interactive: Who's Eligible for Deferred Action in Texas
The Obama administration next week will begin accepting applications for deferred action from what it expects to be hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the country illegally.
The policy, which was announced June 15, grants relief from deportation proceedings to certain immigrants who meet certain guidelines. Two-year work permits will also be issued to qualified applicants.
The administration has argued that the directive is part of the government’s efforts to spend its limited resources on deporting serious criminal immigrants. It has championed the measure as a way to reward children brought to the country illegally through no fault of ...

Too littl', why not under cut the coyotes? They get 3-5000$ a head to smuggle folks here. We charge 200$, fingerprint them and issue a photo ID right there on the spot. If they are criminals we'll know because they won't come for fear of being found out and if they are and brave enough to try, we know who they are. I like turning overhead into income and if it cuts the head off the snake in my backyard, All The Better.

this entire issue is ridiculous - this is SUPPOSED to be a nation of open borders. "give us your tired, your poor" etc... anyone who does not believe we should accept essentially all comers is just not American by spirit.

If you're in Texas, you are a Texan. If you are not desirable, that will be sorted out in the usual manner. Walls create watershed problems causing extinction of unique biological species and their habitats. People who love being Texans are what makes Texas so darn loveable. Paiz

Help us to spread the truth, pass this on and help us to take our country back.

Fellow Americans, the election of 2012 will determine the faith of America and our loyalty and allegiance to this United state Government. This election will reflect the fundamental social change in our society, our American cultural values, our dependence in our government for our welfare and our self responsibility for our future and the future of our children.
It is evident that our America, the one that fought for the American dream and the opportunities that came with that middle class life, that was based on expectation and human potential is dying. What made this country what it use to be, was the institution of marriage that connects men and women to one another and to their children. Parents spend more time helping to shape their children’s futures. That includes reading to them, providing after school sports, arts, and other enrichment projects. Having children was not something that happens to them; they plan to have children and celebrate their births as a legacy of their own existence. Having a marriage partner who shares in that celebration made the foundation of our country.
Today we are a multicultural country, more divided than 50 years ago, with a population of illegal and legal immigrants that are not integrate into the American culture, at the top of the list are the Mexicans 35 millions of them with the biggest percent of babies born to single moms with incomes less than $15,000 per year, second are the blacks and other Latinos from Puerto Rico, central and south America that form this new class of welfare citizens. National
data shows the average median net worth of married households is seven times the wealth of unmarried households.
Married households are certainly more affluent than single parents and are positive, with views and an expectations that their children will exceed and surpass them. Life doesn’t happen to this group, they control their destiny as much as possible and that of their children.
In contrast, single parents live in an insecure world where choices are limited and getting through the day may be a triumph, they are economic slaves that depends on the welfare and social service, with poor schooling and lousy prospects; this segment of our citizens are growing and will become the majority.
This economic catastrophe will contribute to the demise of the middle class and destroy the institution of marriage, this will be the biggest threat to our country's freedom it will be the life prospects that will divide the U.S into a society of few that have, and the majority that have-not.
Our future depend on our ability to re-store our institution of marriage and the prospects of a better life for our children, good education; may be a college degree and good jobs.
Fellow Americans, middle class expectations should be the norm, and we should have the inclination and drive to reinforce the norms that lead to a better life. President Obama constantly pitch his campaign messages to the America, the one that fought for the American dream and the opportunities that came with that middle class life, but he do not have the political will and inclination to reinforce the norms that will lead poor Americans to a better life.
We need jobs in this country, but he do not have a clue as to how to create jobs for Americans, he have done nothing during the last four year, unemployment is not 8.2%; true unemployment is 14%. The news media is lying to the American people, they do not report the truth about employment in this united states.
Education is the main factor for economic prosperity, but our education system it is not working, our inner cities schools are breeding grounds for gangs, drug trafficking and prostitution.
Free Trade is the main problem and the cause of unemployment in our country and Obama continue making free trade agreements to benefit the multinational corporation.
Our national debt is huge, 15.8 trillions Dollars and he refuse to balance the budget and pay our national debt, he is engage on a expending frenzy that devaluate the Dollar and created this inflation.
The wars cost trillions of Dollars and he promised to end the wars, but to this day nothing is done; but in the name of national security he is engage in the intervention and overthrowing foreign legitimate elected governments.
Americans have enough of Obama's lies and deception; please get inform about the truth and vote for America.
In God we Trust – God Blesses America the land of the free.

Sidney, you are a scary Texan.

E.J ,,,,,Yes , by all means we certainly need as many more " Tired, Hungry and Poor " as we can possibly get to come here.
We are not an 'Open Borders" country now , nor have we ever been. All countries have immigration policies to control the migration of people . We are told these people take jobs Americans will not do because they do not pay a living wage. Then how do they live by taking these jobs?
There are not enough jobs to go around now.
Over 2 million people legally immigrate every year.. Job creation has been around 100,000 per month. This means 1.2 million jobs per year. Even if you believe the Presidents campaign rhetoric they have created 4.5 million jobs during his reign. This still leaves us several million jobs short of employing all the new immigrants legally entering the country during this same time span. In fact there are fewer people working than when he came into office and there has been a net loss of jobs available.
The problem with any consideration being given these " Dreamers" is that by extension their families also receive the benefit . This effectively doubles the numbers easily. While not getting green cards themselves the parents and siblings will probably not be referred for deportations. So effectively bringing a young child into the country offers you a certain amount of protection from deportation. Equally this applies to persons up to age 31,,,,,,,,, hardly what I would call children ,,, having been in the country for 13 years after obtaining the age of majority.
They will instantly be qualified for Medicaid, housing assistance , free cell phones, food stamps, and many other programs paid for by the government. Green card holders are qualified for these programs , and are being encouraged to take advantage of them. Many take advantage of these programs now anyway. Especially since having an Anchor Baby pays. Does anyone think they have a special shelf that holds " Anchor Baby food exclusively?" I doubt they restrict the consumption of food paid for by American taxpayers to only authorized individuals in their families. If housing assistance can be obtained by having one of these children , are they the only ones that live there?
The point is we need to restrict immigration all the way around. We should encourage well educated and prosperous individuals to come here. We do not need less educated and less economically secure people in large amounts immigrating here. Illegal Immigrants are largely less educated and poor , most not even having the equivalent of a high school education. If education is all important to our success as a nation,,,, then why would we want these less educated people coming here?
Most True " Dreamers" are not typical Illegal immigrants and have been educated at the expense of the taxpayers. I can understand the logic of obtaining some type of return on this investment. On the other hand is this a reward to them and an enticement to others to do the same? Comprehensive immigration reform means different things to different people. To me it means restricting immigration across the board, to the other side it means making it easier to come here.
As long as it does not affect you , you probably are all for more people coming here and having opportunity to better their lives. When it personally affects your life and income your perspective changes. Find someone who works in,,, or used to work in construction and ask them how they feel. There are hundreds of thousands of them who do not have jobs as a direct result of illegal immigration. Tell them that the right thing to do is to accept Illegal's with open arms and embrace policies that encourage more to come here.
Emotion should have no place in this debate. What is practical , prudent and in the best interest of the country and the people should be the only criteria for consideration. We all have sympathy for the downtrodden of the world, but the truth of the matter is we cannot save them all and self interest is the primary consideration.

Way to Barak. I am happy that something is being done to help those who were brought here without their consent. For those of you who complain that they are just like all the other illegals, these are children brought to the US by their parents, they had no consent on being made into "criminals" anymore than you would have if your parents had entered a country illegally. That is why we need a modified DREAM Act and a new Lodge type Act.
