The Mexican Illegal Aliens have very limited medical care and most cannot afford to see a doctor until they cross our borders illegally where they can have free hospital care while having their anchor babies who also get free medical care at the taxpayers expense.
With the Texas budget being 27 Billion in the red which is 60% education; and the illegal refuses to learn the English, then they should NOT be able to attend school. The American language is English and we have one flag; it is the American flag. Illegals come across the border knowing they are breaking the law so why should they obey any other American laws? An Illegal should not be allowed free food, reproduce for free, drive without insurance, obtain discount housing programs and discount utlities - they are illegal and should not be awarded for being so. There would be less rape, murder, burglaries and highway filth not to mention the trash in out neighborhoods since they have no respect for our laws. Our citizens must pay for their own insurance cost, medical, hospital, and we do not know the cost of the psychological cost to the victims and their families for the emotional damages for the Illegals coming here and murdering our innocent American Citizens. Gov. Perry should put up powerful electric fences across the border of Mexico if not land mines! Anyone hiring an Illegal should be thrown in prison and all their equipment sold at auctions or given to the middle class, who are now the lower class, so they they can have jobs they pay enough to feed and house their families. What is so hard about become legal?

Annette - I'm not sure where the death penalty vs life in prison came from, but I do agree with you that, if for no other reason than financial, the death penalty should be done away with.
However. That being said, most immigrants learn the language of wherever it is that they move. It takes a few years, but they learn it. The ONLY reason that it might appear that "they never learn the language" is that there is ALWAYS going to be someone to replace them who has just moved and doesn't yet speak the language.
Is this seriously the way you see non-white Americans, illegal alien or otherwise? Always "grab[b]ing up everything you can like you deserve it"? Because if it is, I am truly sorry that you are so angry and hateful.

The stereotype that immigrants are carriers of disease is a repugnant throwback to the nativism and xenophobia of the 1920's when Anglo-Americans labelled Irish immigrants "dirty." It evokes the Chinese Exclusion Act, which was similarly based on the grotesque labeling of immigrants from that country. It is not part of a public health strategy to say these things, but is rather a very thinly veiled effort to heat up the anti-immigrant rhetoric and to exclude a group of people who our nation should welcome as our workforce grows older. This sort of labeling evokes a "racial panic." Very ugly stuff.

With the education crunch Texas is in; we do not need to teach in other languages when the American language is English. I do understand taking a foreign language as an elective in high school.
When my family came to America, they learned to speak English, flew the American flag (not upside down either) and were grateful to become American citizens and vote.

A quick refresher of early 20th century American history might help you out; or, if you're not a reader, the film "Gangs of New York" gives something of a glimpse. Second, I invite you to read the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). I've read it. It's an American law. It makes it quite difficult to enter the United States legally, much less as a permanent residence or a naturalized American citizen. It is also quite expensive, costing thousands of dollars with attorney' fees. There is NOTHING easy about it.

Yes I also know of the "white" famous murders as most Americans do with out being a rocket scientist.
However, the vast majority of prisoners which we are supporting are Illegal Aliens - Mexican Nationals, Muslims, and other minorities and most are Illegal Aliens. The real minorities in prison is the White race.
That being said,you said you did not understand where the life in prison verses the death penalty statements I made came from. I was referring to the budget cuts. Life in prison cost $45,000 verses the death penalty being ten (10) times more and 6 million dollars would not be unusual. Texas has the option of "Life in Prison Without Parole" which would save millions of dollars for school education. This would not only save money; it would also have prevented the 236 innocent inmates from being excused which was only discovered since DNA was discovered.

BTW, have you ever been to one of those European countries where people speak two or three languages fluently as a matter of daily life? They are what is called 'well educated' because multiple languages are taught in their public schools. Why do you insist we should do less?

Article I, Section 1 of the US Constitution specifically reserves all federal legislative authority to Congress, not the president. No President should use executive orders as a way to make policy without consulting the Congress. Obama think that he can do whatever he wants and trash our Constitution. Congress, must stop Obama from take- over the Congressional powers, we have a Constitution and no president should have the power to act unilaterally to void the laws of the United States, Obama took an oath to defend the Constitution , but what he is doing is to trash our Constitution and our laws. The Mexican Illegal Aliens have very limited medical care and most cannot afford to see a doctor until they cross our borders illegally where they can have free hospital care while having their anchor babies who also get free medical care at the taxpayers expense.
With the Texas budget being 27 Billion in the red which is 60% education; and the illegal refuses to learn the English, then they should NOT be able to attend school. The American language is English and we have one flag; it is the American flag. Illegals come across the border knowing they are breaking the law so why should they obey any other American laws? An Illegal should not be allowed free food, reproduce for free, drive without insurance, obtain discount housing programs and discount utlities - they are illegal and should not be awarded for being so. There would be less rape, murder, burglaries and highway filth not to mention the trash in out neighborhoods since they have no respect for our laws. Our citizens must pay for their own insurance cost, medical, hospital, and we do not know the cost of the psychological cost to the victims and their families for the emotional damages for the Illegals coming here and murdering our innocent American Citizens. Gov. Perry should put up powerful electric fences across the border of Mexico if not land mines! Anyone hiring an Illegal should be thrown in prison and all their equipment sold at auctions or given to the middle class, who are now the lower class, so they they can have jobs they pay enough to feed and house their families. What is so hard about become legal?

Here's one last dip into your particular brand of crazy before I stop trying to use logic on you.
The statistics you posted about where Texas now stands in relation to the rest of the US because of illegal immigrants doesn't make any sense. Two of them seem to have no logical link to anything you've been saying, nor to any sort of argument relating to illegal immigration. What do average credit score, where Texas ranks 49th according to you, and the rate of public school enrollment, where we evidently rank second in the country for children being enrolled (which I would argue is a good thing, if those numbers reflect percentage of children versus pure numbers and if your statistics actually have any merit), have anything to do with illegal immigration?
You also posted two sets of numbers for the percentage of people living below the poverty line. The first set of numbers says that Texas is fourth, while the second set of numbers says that Texas is 48th. Which is it?
As a refresher, I've quoted the pertinent statistics you gave below.

Thank you so very much. To be honest, all last night I thought about how angry the t-party lies on here and elsewhere make me, and whether I should even keep reading the comments.! It's not like logic is going to sink into crazy anytime soon,. Then I remember the midterms, and how they shouted the lies loud enough and long enough to get a larger percentage of independents to vote their way, and I realize, when they tell lies like:

5. School Administrators salaries are the cause of the school budget problem

They have spent this legislative session blaming everyone and neglecting to point out they have been in control of the state since 94. So much for taking responsiblity for their "management".
My view is that rational people must speak up against t-party posts and point out a) the racist and bigoted statements b) the lies and disinformation and c) their galling lack of responsiblity on critiical issues, and how they would rather use these wedge issues to divide our nation/state rather than seek solutions through compromise.
The good news is their Presidential field is, as it has been said, all boots and no cattle! I feel the crtical thing is to call them out on everyone of their lies when they publicly make it. The only problem with that strategy, is you end up trying to talk logic to crazy/delusional. NOT FUN!
The very ones that drove our economy into the ditch, blame the President. So much for their code of "Personal Responsibility".

I happen to be a Democratic and I voted for Obama. I do not hate anybody as you do nor am I racist, however; you seem to be racist against American citizens. All the Illegal Aliens have to do is come here legally, as in an Immigrant. Maybe if they had to pay for their own babies (like I do) they would not have so many. Nobody in my family has ever taken a hand out from the government and I would be embarrased for my neighbors to know they were supporting me with food, WIC, housing incentivies, etc., with their tax money. No one in my family has ever accepted any benefits from the government/taxpayers - not even unemployment. How many times do I have to tell you and Linda, I do not even know one single person in the KKK nor do I want to! However, one is not predudice because they do not want to support Illegal Aliens and the rest of my family feel the same way and they are and always have been Democratics. I would much rather help the elderly people who are sick and helpless, the disabled-especially the children, abused children, children and our folks that have no homes,
are hungry and as well as the abused animals who cannot speak for themselves. Considering your rabid rant, perhaps you should wipe the foam off your mouth and calm down. For the record I also feel strongly about securing our borders. We should do so with a path to citizenship, guest worker programs, and dealing with "illegals" with some basic level of compassion. As to illegal immigtation, If we do not take a comprehensive approach to this problem, it is doomed to fail!
I am pleased you have not needed any government assitance, and that your family and your life have been secure enough that you have not needed it. However, for you to be embarrased for such an incident communicates a level of classism and superiority to those that are less fortunate that I fail to understand.
If you feel unjustly portrayed as a t-party republican, I can only state it was never my intention to accuse you of something your not. When it comes to illegal immigration, you sound very much like one.. Attacking those less fortunate, and supporting those that spread malicious lies like "they (illegals) bring in the black plague" makes your position fair game. Such a statement is reprehensible, especially for an elected official. It is a tactic out of the Jim Crow south playbook. If you feel I have been unfair or unkind to you personally, then I regret that. Like you, I feel very passionate about this issue.. I am also deeply offended by the inevitable t-party attitude of expressing violence against illegals as being permissable. If you do not share those sentiments, you need to look at those "on your side?" in these posts.
As to the death penalty, I would agree to you. For myself, I do not believe we have the moral imperative to put someone to death. For me, it is a matter of my faith. But I recognize, (even if it saddens me) that many hold a VALID position in support of it. In light of the evidence around the Willingham excution, it would seem the State of TX has excuted an innocent man for killing his own children. It sickens me to think of it, especially when Perry could have done somehting about it. Unfortunately, he wanted to look tough on crime.

My apologies. My purpose in trying calling you on some of these things is to try to make you understand that there might be other factors involved, that it is not just because someone is here illegally. From what was posted, it seemed that you felt that that was the only factor in whether or not a crime was committed.
I harp on spelling and grammar because I am a passionate reader and huge supporter of education and literacy for everyone, regardless of where they come from. It is very easy to dismiss someone, and their arguments, as being without merit when spelling and grammar are absent, no matter how much education they may have had. The posts you have made when you have paid attention to grammar and spelling have been much easier to understand, as well as much harder to simply dismiss out of hand.
My questions about your statistics, while asked rather snarkily, I am actually curious about. If you can show me how they relate to illegal immigration, and which of the statistic quoted twice with different numbers is the one you intended, I will be happy to listen.
I agree with you that the death penalty is wrong, even more so since part of the cocktail will now be missing. My reasons for thinking that the death penalty are wrong may be different from yours, but I think we can both agree that we, as concerned citizens, should work towards ending the practice.
This common ground here, even with our (possibly) different reasons for our beliefs, is something that I think probably extends into the debate about illegal immigration. I agree with you that these people (and animals) should be helped. As you have indirectly pointed out, most, if not all, of the illegal immigrants are incredibly poor. For me, the sticking point for helping someone is not their immigration status. For me, the knowledge that they are my fellow human beings and are in need of help is what concerns me. I understand that for others, the law takes a higher precedence. This is not intended as a value judgment of anyone with those beliefs, but as a point of initial meeting. Should we try to help everyone first and then sort out who is here legally? Or should we sort out who is here legally and then see who needs help?
I am a college student currently, working two jobs and paying for my own school. I have the help of government grants, but my education is by no means a free ride. I do pay taxes and dislike the waste that our government cannot seem to do without. Unfortunately for everyone, I do not see that there will ever come a day when elected officials will ever be the trustworthy, shining examples of citizenship that they claim to be. Once Congress realized that they could vote themselves a raise anytime they wanted (with all the implications that that entailed), I think that America was collectively hosed. A rather naive part of me does still hope for rational discourse, but as you pointed out, even here in a comments section of a newspaper that seems to be lost cause.
That being said, I rather dislike your implication that I use the vocabulary of a sixteen year old. I rather pride myself on my ability to be as articulate and pompous as a stereotypical English or history professor.

Immigration through legal channels is designed to deal with various issues ,, health of the immigrant and impact on the Citizens is but one. i am sure he does have a valid point, but loses credibility through his exaggeration . Facts and verifiable information are there to support Border control and enforcement for many reasons. He should confine his remarks to relevant and verifiable facts.
