Branch, R-Dallas, is in a 2014 Republican primary runoff for attorney general. He has represented House District 108 since 2003. He is the chairman of the House Higher Education Committee; co-chairman of the Oversight of Higher Ed Governance, Excellence and Transparency Committee; and a member of the Legislative Budget Board and Calendars and Pensions committees. Branch is a graduate of the SMU School of Law and a member of the bars of Texas, New York and the District of Columbia. He is the chairman of SMU's John Tower Center for Political Studies and serves on numerous boards.
