Davis, D-Fort Worth, has represented District 10 in the state Senate since 2009. She is vice chairwoman of the Open Government Committee and a member of the Economic Development, Transportation, and Veteran Affairs and Military Installations committees. She announced her candidacy for governor on Oct. 3, 2013. 

Davis graduated first in her class from Texas Christian University and then graduated with honors from Harvard Law School. Before her election to the Senate, she served on the Fort Worth City Council for nearly nine years
