Judge Tom Price was elected to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in November 1996.
Price was born in Des Moines, Iowa and relocated to Texas in 1957. He attended Highland Park High School in Dallas and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following the conclusion of his military service, Price attended East Texas State University and Baylor University School of Law.
After four years of private practice, Price was elected in 1974 judge of Dallas County Criminal Court No. 5 and served in that capacity for three consecutive terms. He was elected to the 282nd Criminal District Court in 1986 and was reelected in 1990 and again in 1994. He was selected by his peers in 1991 as presiding judge of the criminal district courts, a position he held throughout his tenure on the district bench.
Price was chairman of the Community Justice Council Committee from 1991 to 1996 and was an active participant in the site selection, construction, and administration of the Dallas County State Jail Facility. He was also heavily involved in the hiring for and site selection and construction of the Dallas County Judicial Drug Treatment Center.
Judge Price has two children, Jan and Brian.
His current term on this court is through 2014.
