Senator Steve Ogden was first elected to represent SD-5 in 1997 and currently serves as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. He previously served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives.

Ogden serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, and as a member on the Administration, Education, and Government Organization committees.

He has been recognized for his legislative by efforts by the Texas County and District Attorneys Association, the Texas A&M University System, and Sam Houston State University. Ogden has also received the “Bob Bullock Award” for Outstanding Public Stewardship, was named among the "Ten Best Legislators" by Texas Monthly magazine, a "Top Texas Legislator" by Capitol Inside, and “Pro-Life Chairman of the Year” by Texas Right to Life.

Ogden has been in the oil and gas exploration business for more than 20 years and is currently president of Ogden Resources, an independent oil and gas company based in Bryan. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served nine years as an officer in the U.S. Navy submarine fleet. He received his M.B.A. from Texas A&M University.

Ogden and his wife, Beverly, were married in December of 1973 and have four children, Michael, Stephanie, Kristen and Charles.
